New online service coming soon with FREE downloads (including this resource) available! For more information visit https://alphabetlearning.online What’s included? This download includes four A4, pdf sheets (portrait) to practise handwriting x6 graphemes. What’s it for? This resource has been designed to enable learners to practise handwriting the first set for phase 3 phonics letters - j v w x y z (this is the fifth set in the ‘phonics handwriting set’ - which begins with phase 2 sounds). Learners are guided where to write with a starting dot and grey letter shape to follow. The four different sheets vary in level of support and challenge provided making it easy for adults to select just the right level to match each learners ability. Learners could begin at sheet 1 and revisit these letters working through sheets 2 - 4 which incrementally provide less support yet more challenge each time. Who’s it for? This resource has been designed for early years children, pupils in years one and two as well as older students needing additional learning support. Resource details This activity has been designed to write straight on. Letters include ‘starting dots’ so learners know where to place their pencil to begin and dots on top of letters guide where to write. Set 5 This set includes handwriting practise for x6 sounds - j v w x y z. There are four sheets included, slightly different in design and level of challenge/support provided, though each sheet is numbered 1 - 4 (at the top of each sheet). These numbers (and the cover image) left to right indicate the levels in order of easiest to hardest. Sheet 1 provides the most support with the least amount of challenge, sheet 4 provides the least amount of support with the most challenge. The different designs makes it easier to select the level that best suits your learner/s. Page 1 Learners have one set (row) of each letter/sound to write - using the starting dot and dotted lines (on top of each pale grey letter shape) as a guide. Page 2 Learners have two sets (rows) of each letter/sound to write - using the dotted lines as a guide for the first line. The second line includes the same (grey) letter shapes for learners to trace over without a starting dot and without the dotted line guides. Page 3 Learners have two sets (rows) of each letter/sound to write - using the dotted lines as a guide for the first line. The second line includes some grey letter shapes for learners to trace over with a starting dot. There is also a blank space (with a starting dot) for learners to write their own letters after this for every letter. Page 4 Learners have two sets (rows) of each letter/sound to write - using the dotted lines as a guide for the first line. The second line is a blank line for learners to write each support without any scaffolding support. Important message… ANY issues with any of this resource please don’t hesitate to get in touch - we are happy to make changes.

Writing Phase 2 words (x2 levels)

(0)
New online service coming soon with FREE downloads (including this resource) available! For more information visit https://alphabetlearning.online What’s included? x4 sheet, all portrait orientation, pdf format. What’s it for? These resources have been designed to be used at the end of learning Phase 2 (once all the sounds have been introduced) to check learners knowledge. There are two sheets of the same design with a variation of the challenge provided, enabling you to choose the right level of support for your learners. Who’s it for? These resources have been designed to be used at the end of Phase 2 by Reception/Year 1 pupils - primarily for assessment purposes. This resource is also ideal for supporting older pupils with additional learning needs. How to use it Learners sound out a word (looking at a picture) and write graphemes within each word on the lines provided. The resources included are at two levels, the icon at the lower right side indicates the level of challenge as higher/lower. At the top of both sheets a ‘colour key’ is included - recapping on the Phase 2 sounds and order these are taught. Red sounds are introduced first s a t p i n (so should be most familiar), orange sounds are next m d g o c k, followed by yellow ck e b r u h then green f ff l ll ss which are the last of the Phase 2 sounds. Both resources are provided with and without the (colour coded) Phase 2 sounds at the top at the sheet. All images included within both resources can be sounded out only using sounds within Phase 2. Resource 1 The less challenging sheet (providing more support) focuses on CVC words and under the lines (to write on) includes ‘sound dots’. These are colour-coded supporting learners as to which colour group that sound is from as well as making clear how many sounds are in each word. This sheet also has one CCVC (frog) and one CVCVC (lemon) word at the end. Words are: ant tap pan map cat mat kit (like ‘PE’ or ‘football’ kit) rat bag bat frog lemon (the ‘o’ is ‘red’ as some may pronounce this sound as ‘u’) Resource 2 The more challenging sheet (providing less support) includes words with more sounds/using sounds which may be trickier to remember, e.g. ‘ff’, ‘ll’, ‘ss’. Words are: stamp ink nest dog gift (not to be confused with ‘present’!) duck octagon (learners need to know this 2D shape! In addition the ‘a’ is ‘red’ as some may pronounce this sound as ‘u’, learners may need help with this) up bell hen (not to be confused with ‘chicken’!) daffodil (learners will need to know the name of this flower or may write ‘flower’ instead. In addition the ‘o’ is ‘red’ as some may pronounce this sound as ‘u’ or ‘a’) grass Suggestion These sheets could be laminated and used as a table top activity for learners to access independently using a wipe clean pen. Important message… Any issues please let us know - we are happy to make changes.

Set of x5 CVC Words Activities Phase 2/3

(0)
New online service coming soon with FREE downloads (including this resource) available! For more information visit https://alphabetlearning.online What’s included? This download includes x15 A4, portrait pdf sheets to practise reading and writing CVC words mostly within Phase 2. Sounds from Phase 3 include j, v, w, z and sh. What’s it for? This activity is interactive and encourages learners to sound out and read simple CVC words and think about what these words mean. Some words of course may have more than one meaning, however for the purpose of this activity there is one illustration for every word. For words which are ‘new’ learners may need to work by process of elimination to identify the correct word/picture combination to record this (in writing) on the sheet provided. Who’s it for? This resource has been designed for early years children, pupils in year one as well as older students needing additional learning support. Resource Details x5 (colour coded) sets are included. Each set includes one ‘CVC wheel’ to make with easy to follow instructions. Once the wheel is assembled when turned different initial letters are revealed to make x9 CVC words per wheel. CVC words include the sounds ‘an’, ‘et’, ‘ip’, ‘og’ and ‘ug’ ALL words are ‘real’ (not ‘nonsense’) words. The CVC phonics wheel can be reused time and again. There is a clear space for learners to write their name at the base of each sheet (left side). Differentiation Also included is one sheet in two levels of difficulty. The first sheet only has the initial sound missing (easier), the second sheet has ALL letters missing - for learners to write on the lines provided (more challenging). The level of difficulty is indicated by an icon at the base of each sheet (right side) - green for easier, red for more challenging. Suggestion Card is best to use for making this resource as it is stronger and much more robust than paper, making the phonics wheel easier to turn (for learners) and will last longer. Laminating this resource would be ideal if you have the time. Important message… ANY issues with any of this resource please don’t hesitate to get in touch - we are happy to make changes.

Laminating this resource would be ideal if you have the time. Important message… ANY issues with any of this resource please don’t hesitate to get in touch - we are happy to make changes.

There is also a space to add in your own ‘traffic’ should this be needed. Who’s it for? This resource has been designed for early years children, pupils in years one and two as well as older students needing additional learning support. Resource Details There are x2 stages to this activity, going out (always with an adult!) to count vehicles for an agreed amount of time and transferring the information collected onto a block diagram. Page 1 Learners are to count the number of vehicles observed passing along a road (from a safe distance and always with adult supervision!) The types of vehicles included on the recording sheet are cars, vans, buses, trucks/lorries, bicycles, motorbikes, pedestrians. There is a space to add another type of traffic in the lowest box. Page 2 Using the information recorded on page 1 learners then transfer this information to the simple, clear block diagram. The vehicles listed on the ‘traffic survey’ sheet are included in the same order here to assist the process of transferring this information. Learners can colour the same number of ‘coloured boxes for each group of vehicles. There is space on the bar chart for up to 12 vehicles (for each vehicle group). Vehicle groups with any more than 12 should colour up to 12 as this indicates ‘12+’. New online service coming soon with FREE downloads (including this resource) available! For more information visit https://alphabetlearning.online What’s included? This download includes seven A4, portrait pdf sheets to practise counting objects, sorting (colours) and data handling - transferring the information collected to a clear, simple bar chart. Paper Skittles included! What’s it for? This resource has been designed to investigate collecting data in a step by step, meaningful way. There are three steps in this investigation, sorting and counting the data (Skittles), organising and recording the data (onto a bar chart) and the last step - answering questions about the data. Your learners should be data handling experts at the end of this and may be allowed to eat their Skittles as a reward (alternatively paper Skittles are provided!) Who’s it for? This resource has been designed for early years children, pupils in years one and two as well as older students needing additional learning support. Resource Details There are x7 sheets in total. Two sets of x3 - a colour and black and white version of the same resource plus a sheet of ‘paper Skittles’ to cut up and sort/count (if you don’t want to risk your learners eating their learning!) This activity is organised around one random amount (portion) of Skittles - each learner will need their own portion. Learners could be given a real Skittles or ‘paper/cardboard Skittles’. On the bar chart there is space for up to x16 Skittles of one colour so the amount of Skittles given to learners can be any number to fit their ability, however no more than x16 of any one colour group if you intend for learners to use the bar chart (pages 2 or 5). Page 1 Learners are to sort their portion of Skittles into x5 colour groups (red, orange, yellow, green and purple). Learners then count the number of Skittles in each group and write the total in each colour group ‘total’ box. Page 2 Using the information recorded on page 1 learners then transfer this information to the simple, clear bar chart. Learners can colour the same number of ‘colour’ boxes for each colour group of Skittles. Page 3 Using the information gathered through completing the activities on pages 1 and 2 the questions on page 3 are related to the same number (portion) of Skittles. All colour-names are printed clearly at the top of page 3 so that learners don’t need to think about colour-word spellings. Questions are related to ‘most’, ’least’, ’the same’, ’the difference between’, ’odd’ and ‘even’ numbers. New online service coming soon with FREE downloads (including this resource) available! For more information visit https://alphabetlearning.online What’s included? This download includes seven A4, portrait pdf sheets to practise counting up to 30, sorting (colours) and data handling - transferring the information collected to a clear, simple bar chart. Paper Smarties included! What’s it for? This resource has been designed to investigate collecting data in a step by step, meaningful way. There are three steps in this investigation, sorting and counting the data (Smarties), organising and recording the data (onto a bar chart) and the last step - answering questions about the data. Two sets of x3 - a colour and black and white version of the same resource plus a sheet of ‘paper Smarties’ to cut up and sort/count (if you don’t want to risk your learners eating their learning!) This activity is organised around one tube of Smarties - each learner will need a tube each! Learners could be given a real tube with either real or ‘paper/cardboard Smarties’ inside. See attachment included to cut out and give your learners a random selection of paper Smarties instead. I have found tubes of Smarties have an average of x30 Smarties per tube but if you are giving learners paper/cardboard Smarties this really can be any number of course to fit their ability. The maximum number of one colour of Smarties which will fit on to the bar chart is 12. Page 1 Learners are to sort the Smarties in the tube into x8 colour groups (red, orange, yellow, green, blue, purple, pink and brown). Learners then count the number of Smarties in each group and write the total in each colour group ‘total’ box. Page 2 Using the information recorded on page 1 learners then transfer this information to the simple, clear bar chart. Ants on apples x26 Alphabet Rhymes A-Z Set

(0)
New online service coming soon with FREE downloads (including this resource) available! For more information visit https://alphabetlearning.online What’s included? This download includes x26 simple, predictable alphabet rhymes - one for every letter of the alphabet. Each rhyme is in colour and black and white (so x52 sheets in total). All rhymes are presented in landscape orientation. What’s it for? These rhymes have been designed for learners to practise reading simple words (images make clear what the nouns are) and practise each phonic sound using a pointer (or pointy finger!) Some rhymes are more ‘silly’ than others(!) This is a unique, fun and engaging way to practise reading and phonics that all learners will enjoy. These rhymes also provide a great opportunity to practise using one to one correspondence - an important early reading skill. Who’s it for? This resource has been designed for early years children, pupils in year one as well as older students needing additional learning support. Resource Details The layout of every letter/sound rhyme is in the same format, making this a predictable and structured activity, ideal to keep learners engaged and independent. The font used is ‘Sassoon Infant Std’ - size 50, so a large, ‘easy to read’ size. Each rhyme follows this structure - Ants on apples a, a, a. Ants on apples a, a, a. Ants on apples a, a, a. Ants on apples! Letters a, b, c, d, e, f ,g h, i, j, l, m, n, p, s include the word ‘on’ within the rhyme. Letters k, o, q, r, t, v, w, x, y, z include the word ‘and’ within the rhyme. The letter ‘u’ is… ‘upside-down umbrellas, u, u, u’. How to use this resource Learners might like to practise reading these on their own, in pairs or small groups or even as a class during a whole carpet session, reading/singing along together. We recommend printing out the colour versions of these (the colours look so lovely!) and laminating each rhyme to help keep them sturdy, in good condition. Standing the set of lamintated rhymes on one end inside a plastic box postioned in a ‘reading area’ are really enticing, especially when stored with a ‘pot of pointers’ to use with the rhymes. Suggestions Classes of early years and year one children are really motivated to use these and very good at practising them quietly to themselves. Younger children have often been heard using ‘whispery voices’ while focused on this reading activity, independently (lovely to see!). Learners also really enjoy being able to use these rhymes with a ‘pointer’ (selected from a pot of pointers!) stored with the rhymes, ready to use. Pointers are available separately (left/right handed or together), they just need securing to a lolly stick.
