Clear, colourful and engaging educational resources. Breaking learning down to the nub, making concepts as easy as abc...
We'd love to know what you think of what you download, so please don't hesitate to get in touch...
What’s included?
This download includes three pdf sheets, portrait, in colour/B&W featuring ten images that all begin with the ‘a’ sound. The images can be matched to reinforce knowledge of the ‘a’ sound as well as ordering the images to make a miniature ‘Aa’ book (included).
Who’s it for?
This resource has been designed for early years children, pupils in years one as well as older students needing additional learning support.
What’s it for?
This resource is to reinforce learners knowledge of the ‘a’ sound, to practise matching two items with the same sound and to use their knowledge of the alphabet to make a a miniature ‘Aa’ book.
This is a fun and engaging way to practise recognising the letter a, reinforcing learners knowledge of the initial ‘a’ sound and developing the skill of ordering items alphabetically.
This resource is designed to be used by itself, however as other sets are available different sounds could be combined and presented to learners for them to sort according to which initial sound the different (mixed) images have.
How to use it?
All sheets can be printed onto paper. Page 3 can be made into a miniature book (simple instructions included). To make a book scissors and a glue stick are all that is needed. Once the book is made either the colour set of words/images (page 1) OR the black and white set of words/images (page 2) can be cut and ordered alphabetically and then stuck into the miniature book (one word/image per page).
Page 1 is the colour version of words/images which all begin with ‘a’. These can be cut up (using the dotted lines as a guide for where to cut). Page 2 is the black and white version of page 1 but in addition includes the outline of each word with a starting dot for each letter - encouraging learners to write the word for each image themselves. Learners can also colour these images.
Pages 1 and 2 could be used together as two sets of cards to play a pairs/matching game, for this these pages would be better printed onto card (so that the images cannot be seen through the back as would be the case if using paper).
Resource details
The images included for a are:
add, ambulance, anchor, ant, anteater, antelope, apple, arrow, avocado and axe.

What’s included?
This download includes x3 A4, portrait pdf sheets.
What’s it for?
This resource has been designed for learners to make their own (non fiction) ‘mini book’ to share in writing and drawing some simple information that is ‘all about me’ to help learners and new teachers to get to know each other at the start of a new school year.
Who’s it for?
This resource has been designed for pupils in years one and two as well as older students needing additional learning support.
Resource Details
Page 1
This page has been designed to be the ‘book’ itself. The top section is the front and back cover, the middle and lower section have been designed as the pages to go inside the book. Learners are to cut along ‘dotted’ lines on page 1 to create three separate strips - these are the ‘pages’ of the book. Learners then stack these three pages together - with the ‘All about me!’ cover positioned at the front and fold along the ‘dashed’ lines. Learners can write their name on the line provided on the front cover before continuing with making their mini-book.
Next step - learners stick information (see pages 2 and 3) on front AND back of these pages to add more information to their ‘all about me’ mini-book.
Learners will each need a pencil, scissors and a glue stick. Adults may wish to ‘staple’ the spine of these mini-books together (along the ‘dashed lines’) once complete.
Pages 2 and 3.
These pages have been designed to be cut out as individual squares and completed by learners before being stuck into the prepared mini-book. Learners can choose which ‘squares/pages’ to include in their mini book - there are several to choose from…
Information for learners to complete includes…
drawing a picture of themselves
writing the number for how old they are, drawing the correct number of candles onto a birthday cake to show this and recording in writing when their birthday is
writing or drawing and labelling something that they did during the summer holidays
colouring and writing the name of their favourite colour
drawing and labelling their favourite food (on a plate)
writing or drawing and labelling their favourite ‘thing to do’
circling a sentence to indicate whether they have a pet/s (or not)
writing the type of creature their pet is/pets are and their pets name/s
circling a sentence to indicate whether they like school (or not)
writing or drawing and labelling something they like about/to do at school
writing or drawing and labelling something they do not like about/to do at school

This download includes x2 A4, portrait pdf sheets.
What’s it for?
These resources have been designed either for the start of a new term when new pupils are joining a brand new year group together or for individual pupils who are joining a class mid-term. There are two versions included - a more/less challenging sheet. Learners share in writing some simple information that is ‘all about me’ to help new teachers to get to know them on a more individual level.
Who’s it for?
This resource has been designed for pupils in years one and two as well as older students needing additional learning support.
Resource Details
Both sheets are in the same layout, however one is less challenging than the other.
Less Challenging Version
Learners complete the sentences by writing their own information on the lines provided. There is a space on the right for learners to complete a simple ‘self portrait’ - adding their eye colour, eyebrows, nose, mouth and hair. The written information on the right of this links to the portrait when completed. Under the portrait learners complete their birthday, favourite colour, favourite thing to do and favourite food - all in pictures and writing.

The written information on the right of this links to the portrait when completed. Under the portrait learners complete their birthday, favourite colour, favourite thing to do and favourite food, in writing. In addition learners circle a tick or cross for whether they like school (or not) and can complete sentences recording one thing they do and don’t like at school - helping their new teacher get to know and understand them better.

What’s included?
This download includes two pages (x2 A4 sheets, portrait orientation) featuring one ‘household words’ (nouns) wordsearch (page 1). The answers (on page 2) clearly show where all words are hidden, displayed in the same layout (as page 1) for easy comparison and quick reference.
Who’s it for?
This wordsearch has been designed for pupils the early years, in years one and two, as well as students needing additional learning support.
What’s it for?
This resource has been designed to encourage and support young learners with reading ‘high frequency’ key words.
There are x24 words to find - a lot !
Resource layout
The wordsearch letters are arranged in a x10 by x10 square grid and featuring easy to read size 25 ‘Sassoon Infant Std’ font.
The household words have been organised into four groups of six, clearly showing all hidden words below the wordsearch.
There are x24 words to find in total, all words are illustrated making this resource even clearer to young learners and children with EAL.
These words are hidden horizontally (forwards and backwards), vertically (up as well as down) and diagonally (forwards and backwards). Words to find are; ball, bath, clothes, boat, river, water, car, chair, table, grass, plant, tree, box, hat, home, key, money, bed, book, door, school, shoes and window.
Recommendations
I recommend that learners use a ‘highlighter’ style pen when finding the hidden words as highlighters enable all letters to remain visible once each word has been identified. Some letters have been used more than once (for different words) so all letters need to remain visible (if words are instead ‘crossed out’ this makes the letters harder to read and identify). This wordsearch may be printed and laminated to be reused.

What is it?
This download includes x3 sheets (portrait orientation) featuring x27 right-hand/finger ‘pointers’ in rainbow/skin tone colours both as solid colours and outline only.
What’s it for?
These are for learners to hold and use to ‘point’ to their learning. These pointers were designed to help develop one-to-one correspondence when reading but could be just as helpful for a variety of activities, such as ordering the alphabet, counting objects etc. These resources are ideal to use alongside our ‘ants on apples’ set of rhymes - also available.
Who’s it for?
This resource has been designed for early years children, pupils in years one as well as students needing additional learning support. If you use a ‘pointer’ you can guarantee they would like to use one too!
How to make it?
Print onto white card, follow dotted lines to cut out each hand/pointer shape, attach a wooden lolly stick to the back with sticky tape and they’re ready to use! We recommend keeping a (rainbow coloured!) set in a little pot in the reading area for learners to help themselves to. Colour choice can be very important and it can be especially motivating to be able to choose/use your favourite colour. You may wish for learners to have their own pointer, maybe matching their skin tone or in their favourite colour. Learners could write their name on the back of their own pointers for safekeeping.

What’s included?
This download includes two A4, landscape pdf sheets, one with ‘circular’ shaped (paper/card) beads, the other with ‘square’ shaped (paper/card) beads.
What’s it for?
This resource has been designed to practise ‘ordering the alphabet’ as well as matching upper and lowercase alphabet letters together. Whilst working on this activity learners will develop their fine motor control as well as improve their familiarity of these letters. Learners will need to decide between upper and lowercase letters as they select letters to thread as well as consider which letter/s come next.
This is an ideal activity to keep learners busy and independent.
Who’s it for?
This resource has been designed for early years children and pupils in year one as well as older students needing additional learning support.
Resource Details
The layout includes x6 rows and x9 columns of circular/square shaped beads each with an upper and lowercase letter. Beads are arranged in rainbow order to help guide and motivate learners in finding the next number (and colour) in the pattern.
Dotted guide line showing where to cut and punch a hole are included. The hole to punch is 5mm in size though a smaller hole punch could be used (to increase the fine motor skills challenge!)
Two versions of the letter ‘k’ are included as some learners may be more used to the look of one ‘font style’ than the other.
Learners will need a piece of string/ribbon/pipecleaner to thread their paper/card beads onto.
Suggestions
We recommend that these beads are printed onto card to improve their durability whilst learners are busy sorting through the different letter beads and threading them.
We feel that although the circular beads look equally lovely, the square beads are much easier and quicker to prepare, requiring only straight cuts to separate them.
Learners who might find ordering the letters of the alphabet challenging may benefit from having a upper and/or lowercase alphabet in front of them to use as a reference and support them.

What’s included?
This download includes x3 sheets, portrait orientation, pdf format.
What’s it for?
This activity has been designed for learners to look more closely at a set of common words, which are important and useful to be able to read, write and spell. Learners match words with images by completing two-piece jigsaw puzzles. This set focuses on x15 ‘colour names’ - all colour words have a matching colour image.
This is a simple, predictable activity to promote independence and consolidate learning. This activity is ideal for individuals/groups to be getting on with independently or those needing some individual 1:1 support.
Who’s it for?
This resource has been designed for pupils in Year 1 who are learning or need some practise reading/writing/spelling these words. This resource is also suitable for older learners with additional learning needs.
How to use it?
Pre-cut along dotted lines provided for the set of x15 words (including cutting to separate words from images). Shuffle and place face-up for learners to read and match.
Resource Details…
It is possible to ‘sound out’ most of these words - this is indicated by a ‘tick’ symbol at the top of the picture and word box. the graphemes in those words which can be sounded out are underlined - making clear how many sounds are in each word. Those words which are tricky and cannot be ‘sounded out’ have a small ‘cross’ symbol at the top of the picture and word box, in addition - ‘tricky words’ (which can’t be sounded out) are underlined as one word.
Key
At the top-right of each ‘word box’ there is a coloured ‘triangle’. This colour indicates which phonics phase that word fits in with.
pink triangles indicate that the words are from phase 2
purple triangles indicate that the words are from phase 3
turquoise triangles indicate that the words are from phase 5
underlined letters indicates that the letters (together) have one sound
red letters indicate the tricky/irregular letters/sounds.
This colour-coded ‘key’ is included at the top of each sheet to make this colour-coded system clear.
It is possible to ‘work out’ some words which contain some red letters if the focus is placed on the black letters in those words which should be sounds learners know (depending on which phonics-phase they are competent in).
The dark grey box outline colour indicates that these words are all part of the ‘colour names’ set. Sets for 'nouns’ and ‘number names to 20’ are available and other common/high frequency word sets are coming.

This download includes one A4, portrait pdf sheet to practise recognising the letters and order of the alphabet.
What’s it for?
This alphabet wheel has been designed to be an interactive way for learners to practise saying the sound of each letter of the alphabet. Learners turn the wheel, say what the picture is showing e.g. ‘monkey’ then the initial sound for that picture - ‘mmm’. As they turn the wheel learners may be able to predict which sound will be next (depending on how well they know the order of the alphabet). For a challenge learners could turn the wheel anticlockwise and see if they can recall the alphabet sounds backwards!
Who’s it for?
This resource has been designed for early years children, pupils in years one as well as older students needing additional learning support.
Resource Details
Dotted lines guide where to cut and where to create a hole. This resource will need to be printed onto card (or if printed on paper, glued to card afterwards) to ensure it is sturdy enough to be used by little hands. A single split pin is needed for this resource.
The layout includes x2 wheels, one for the ‘front’ (wheel 1) and one for the back - with the alphabet images on (wheel 2). Once assembled (according to instructions included on the pdf) the alphabet wheel can be turned to reveal one easy to recognise image at a time for every letter of the alphabet - in order (if wheel 1 is turned clockwise).

The layout includes x2 wheels, one for the ‘front’ (wheel 1) and one for the back - with the x2 sets of vowels on (wheel 2). Once assembled (according to instructions included on the pdf) the CVC Phonics Wheel can be turned to reveal one vowel in the centre of the two consonants displayed/written on the front of the wheel. The wheel can be turned clockwise or anticlockwise, the direction doesn’t matter.
Some words will be ‘real’ e.g. den//hen/men/pen and some words will not be real/will be ‘nonsense’ words e.g. len/ren - these can be written on page 3 - there is space for x10 real and x10 nonsense words to be written here and a clear space for learners to write their name (at the base of the sheet).
Suggestion
For older, more able learners this activity could be linked to looking up new words in the dictionary to find out if they are/are not real words and if they are ‘real’ words e.g. ‘fen’ find out what their meanings are (Fen is used to refer to an area of low, flat, wet land, especially in the east of England).

What’s included?
This download includes four A4, portrait pdf sheets to make x4 phonics fans featuring all sounds in Phase 2.
What’s it for?
These phonics fans can be used in a variety of ways to practise and reinforce learners knowledge of all Phase 2 sounds. Fans can be made as separate sets or combined on one ring depending on the needs of your learner/s to explore independently, as part of a group or class. The fans can be used to sort/match, answer questions and play games.

Yellow Set 3 (page 3)
Includes sounds ck e b r u h
Green Set 4 (page 4)
Includes sounds f ff l ll ss
How to use this resource
As all letter sounds for Phase 2 are included here the all can be combined onto one ring as one set. I have included ‘covers’ for each individual set incase the preference is to split the sets. A ‘cover’ for ALL sounds is included on Page 4.
Phonics fans can be used in a variety of situations including on-the-carpet questioning with the whole class/smaller groups where pupils can show their answers instead of speaking. Learners can use these phonics fans as a personal reference resource to cross-check the correct grapheme or orientation of individual letters if unsure when writing. Phonics fans can also be used for a variety of games and to involve learners during sound rhymes and songs. These fans are a great size to fit into a pocket or clip onto a lanyard to be accessed both inside the classroom and outdoors.
Suggestion
I recently purchased some brightly coloured plastic keyrings which can be easily opened by unclipping the plastic. These could be ideal should you wish learners to access the contents of the ring (e.g. to order the letters) and come in a variety of colours. Alternatively I have found standard metal keyrings also work well as a more permanent ‘holder’ of the contents threaded onto the keyring.
I recommend that each letter is laminated before punching a hole and threading onto a keyring - this is included in the instructions on the pdf.

What’s included?
This download includes x3 A4 portrait pdf sheets. These include three dice to make, x2 ‘game cards’ and simple, clear instructions for how to play the game.
What’s it for?
This resource explores CVC (consonant, vowel, consonant, e.g. ‘dog’) words to read and write. Learners use their phonic knowledge to make and read words rolling and ordering the three dice provided. Learners then write these words in a list - deciding if each word is ‘real’ or ‘nonsense’.

Red Die 1 (page 1)
Includes sounds s b h m p r
Amber Die 2 (page 2)
Includes sounds a a e i o u
Green Die 3 (page 2)
Includes sounds ck d g ll n t
How to use this resource
An adult needs to cut out and make the three phonics dice - clear instructions are included. Each player will need one game card (and a pencil!) There are two game cards included on page 3 - these can be printed/photocopied as many times as needed and the sheet cut in half to separate the two game cards (one per player).
This game can be for one learner to play alone or for several learners to play together in a group (taking turns).
The game instructions are included on pages 1 and 3 of the download - I will also include them here:
How to play game
Each player takes turns to roll the three dice together.
Each player places the three dice next to each other, left to right - red, amber, green.
Player sounds out the graphemes to read the word.
If this is a ‘real’ word player writes it in the coloured boxes on their card (on the ‘left’ side). If this is a ‘nonsense’ word the player writes this word in the coloured boxes on their card (on the right side).
Play passes to next player.
If a player rolls the same combination as previously rolled they can have another turn.
First player to roll (read and write!) x5 real OR nonsense words wins!
There are various words which can be made using this combination of letters in the set order. Some ‘real word’ examples include sat/bat/hat/mat/pat/rat, pig/bill/hill/mill/pill, pull/bug/hug/mug/rug, sock/rock/hog, hen/men/pen/red/bell/sell. I hope you have fun finding them all - real AND nonsense!
