This lesson highlights the importance of regular check-ups and highlights the oral health issues faced in the UK today and how regular check-ups can aid prevention. There are opportunities for discussion and a links to suggested video content. With university and leaving home in mind, it underlines the different charging systems across the UK and underlines the value of being up to date with checks before leaving full time education and of registering with a dentist at university. The teaching notes include a link to duplicate a quiz on Forms on current dental statistics. The lesson also gives opportunities to discuss the other health issues which dentists can detect.

This lesson could link with Global Recycling Day in March, but is also part of our Our Planet, Our Impact series and discusses preparing for leaving home/going to university and how to managed shared living to deal with waste disposal. The preliminary quiz on Forms (link to duplicate on the Teaching Notes) will give you some idea of the starting point for many students regarding their awareness of Bin Day, recycling where they currently live and their attitude to recycling and considering their actions. It also discusses ways to manage cooking and clothes shopping on a budget, not just to save money, but also to reduce waste, so lots of food for thought. There are optional discussion points and suggested video links so you can readily adapt the lesson to fit your time allocation.
This lesson is designed to coincide with International Girls in ICT Day in April, but could be adapted to fit at other junctures in your Lifeskills/Careers/PSHE programme. The lesson includes the Ppt with links to suggested videos, discussion points and food for thought. The teaching notes include a link to duplicate a preliminary survey on Microsoft Forms to introduce the themes of the lesson and the final slide includes additional reading, sources and information. This lesson will also support Gatsby Benchmark 3 “Addressing the Needs of Each Pupil”.
These 2 lessons look at smoking and vaping and complement each other as the first on Smoking and Tobacco highlights the length of time it took to realise the full health impact of smoking, something to bear in mind with vaping.

The lesson allows for discussion about why this is being discussed, what it actually means and what it means for those who have been victims of FGM. Our Planet, Our Impact is a growing series of lessons to support environmental awareness in a variety of scenarios, including Green Careers, preparation for university and contributing to make change.
A lot of April is taken up with Easter holidays, so this is a smaller bundle, but bear in mind that the Stephen Lawrence Day lesson includes 2 other free lessons.
These lessons mostly tie to April dates, but the Leaving home one links both with Earth Day and preparing Y13 students for leaving home and the Girls in ICT links to the International Day, but could be included wherever suits you best in your programme.
‘Off the peg’ presentation that could be used as an assembly or a lesson about Martin Luther King Day (17 January 2023). Pre-session quiz and exit ticket quiz included to measure students’ learning and power-point presentation with detailed teacher notes. Designed for sixth formers but also suitable for younger years. Can be adapted for your own needs.
This session is ideal for a post-16 assembly but could also be used as a lesson (PSHE/ PD/ tutor time/ history, as a Holocaust intro). It explores the Holocaust via the implications of prejudice and discrimination and from the perspective of ‘ordinary people’ (this year’s theme for Holocaust Memorial Day). It could be delivered around HMD but also could be used as Holocaust education at another time of year.

What am I worth? Careers Literacy
This lesson includes teaching notes, PowerPoint, preliminary and plenary quizzes on Forms and built in discussions to get students thinking about the cost of living and what they need to bear in mind when planning their career from a financial point of view and weigh up the pros and cons of university and apprenticeships, but also consider the value of job satisfaction. The presentation includes links to support further reading and research to help students consider their choices.
As part of our careers literacy resources, this presentation discusses the real prospect of workplace conflict, how to prepare to find out more about a company ethos, who to talk to in case of difficulty and the value of tackling problems.
