This lesson sets the scene with Oliver Twist being captured for pick pocketing and sent to Newgate prison - the pupils must work in teams to help solve 5 puzzles which lead to them being provided with cryptic clues. Each cryptic clue reveals the next number to the 5 digit code and will eventually release Oliver! Pupils work in pairs to develop their use of higher level vocabulary and demonstrate their knowledge of the two characters before creating their own dating profile for either Macbeth or Lady Macbeth. Includes a modelled dating profile for Shakespeare himself! Pupils reflect upon their work through the use of a levelled mark scheme aimed at year 7 but could easily be altered.
