Simple checklists that can be used by pupils and their peers alike to mark or assess their own graphs, I am using this early on with my year 7s so that they can form good habits by the time they are doing ISAs.

A simple card sort for al the different stages in an investigation write up: Diagram , apparatus, hypothesis, method etc. Pupils have to identify what the definition is and an example of each.

Simple stickers for my year 7s, placed in books when pupils are able to explain how to use equipment safely or accurately. Nice skinner technique.

Useful layout of all the learning objectives from the spec for AQA chemistry. Pupils can tick off topics as they go along or use this as a revision tool that is slightly easier to use than the plain specs. I am using this for formative assessment to have pupils tell me which areas they are confident with.

Simple rock cycle card sort. I use this half way through teaching the rock cycle so that pupils can work out the rest of the cycle themselves. Just print laminate and cut out.

Since 2007 the hazard symbols used worldwide have been changing to these new pictograms. I have yet to see resources using them in schools. Either print the worksheets directly from the powerpoint (1, 2 or 6 per page) or print from the included pdfs. Have a class set of these printed on stiff paper and laminated for a brilliant and fun assessment tool useful time and again when looking at different types of bonding and atomic structure. Either use both sides for a differentiated resource or use just the side you need and leave the other side blank to allow further closed questioning.

This worksheet challenges pupils to think about the risks involved with their investigations and to prioritise them as if they were producing a risk assessment. Pupils work in groups to solve the challenge, use their own knowledge and that given in the resource to write a report to a construction company on which rocks they should use for different construction tasks. Print out all the pages and a set to groups of 3-4 pupils. 20 minutes to read the information, read the example report and to write their own. Lower ability groups will copy out the example with the correct rocks added in and the higher ability groups will write their own report from scratch. I can never seem to find the right periodic table for my students so have made one ideal for KS3/4. Relative atomic mass is only measured to 1d.p. for elements such as Chlorine. Lanthinoids and Actinoides are ignored. Elements are not given capital letters. UK spelling. Relative atomic mass is shown above the chemical symbol. Includes livermorium and flerovium, moscovium etc. Colour coded groups. Groups 1-8 labelled.
