Literacy Students have to sort the words into the categories of nouns, adjectives, verbs and adverbs using a key and then write their own sentences. Used for KS3 SEN.

MFL - German Schiffe versenken Spiel - Haustiere Instructions are included on the worksheet (print double sided). Example sentences are also included. Good for building up confidence with speaking and constructing sentence. Can also be used to teach question and answer skills. You may wish to laminate the sheets and hand out board pens. I like this game because you don't need to be the best at German in the class to win! Set a time-limit and then see who managed to sink the most battleships! A list of different games and activities to use with a new class or at summer school etc. Or just if you want to get to know your own class a bit better. Some would need a bigger space such as a Drama studio but others can be done in the class room. You could also adapt this for MFL and just change the games to be in the Target Language.

Literacy An idea for a bit of extended writing inspired by the lesson on Apostrophes for Possession. When it was clear other work was being finished up or the point of the lesson had been grasped, I put this on the board as an extension for those who had finished. Use of superheroes and celebrities just to capture their imagination!

Literacy Homophones Powerpoint for a KS3 SEN lesson.

Literacy A guideline for students to follow while doing a research task. This can then act as a basis for a further lesson on advertising holidays, or as a speaking and listening task - for example, for Entry Level or Step Up to English. It gives them some structure for learning computer room research skills.

Literacy This is presented on a powerpoint but I printed the sheets out in a size suitable to stick in books instead of asking the weak writers to copy them all out. MFL - German A quick quiz about Germany and German - this could be used at the start of the course to make links to other subjects and to the wider world.

Literacy Simply pictures of tattoos with mistakes in! Helps the students to see that other people make mistakes too and gives them 'real life' examples to correct.

MFL - German Not sure why this has uploaded as a picture - hopefully it can be used as a worksheet to help learn school subjects and colours in German.

Literacy An A5 worksheet (cut in half) for students to create a visual to remember homophones. I gave each student in the class a different pair of homophones and they had to draw each one and also write a sentence for each one. If you wanted each student to have a complete set you could then photocopy them. This was successful because it allowed my weak writers to understand the concept without having to do lots of writing. A5 is also easier/neater for their books!

MFL - French This was made as an easy visual revision sheet for a student (Year 9) with SEN to help them learn basic French verbs for a test. It was used in conjunction with precision teaching. We also made connections with the words for revision, for example 'mange' sounding a bit like 'munch' and 'habite' sounding like 'habitat'.

Literacy Useful for SEN. I print these out and cut up or laminate for students who have trouble recognising capital letter mistakes that they have made in their work. In Literacy, I have cut the strips up and stuck one in every margin of specific exercise books to serve as a reminder. Some students repeatedly put capital letters in the middle of words, for example, and on investigation I found that some of them didn't know what the lower case letter looked like.

Literacy I have used this prompt card to stick in the front of exercise books for lower sets/SEN. You could also laminate the card, punch a hole in it, and tie it with a piece of string into a student's planner so it is visible in every lesson and can be used as a tool to check over the basics in every piece of work. Have you used capital letters correctly? Have you used punctuation correctly? I find the MINTS acronym to be helpful for capital letters.
