Here’s a catchy number that looks at the cyclical nature of our lives. Great sound effects from the BBC archive - the steam train sounds gorgeous but can you hear the hungry polar bear?

PSHE lessons - Positive Thinking

(0)
This PSHE resource is based around my fiction book, Alfred the Great Positive Thinker, which I published as a paperback on Amazon a few years ago. The original blurb: ā€˜10-year-old Alfred has been involved in an incident on the school playground with the most dangerous boy in school. It has left him scarred. Can his best friend Rose help him to see the positive side of things? Or has his wellbeing been permanently damaged?’ I have converted the whole story into a series of ā€˜talking book’ videos which include animated text, human/AI narration and over 50 illustrations and discussion boxes. The main theme is the promotion of positive thinking skills and the importance of a positive mental attitude. But other objectives include: problem solving and speaking/listening skills. I’ve split the book into three parts which each has its own video: • Lesson 1: (pp1-26) Alfred – Part 1 video (15 mins) plus 3 discussion boxes (5 mins each) • Lesson 2: (pp27-48) Alfred – Part 2 video (15 mins) plus 3 discussion boxes (5 mins each) • Lesson 3: (pp49-83) Alfred – Part 3 video (20 mins) plus 3 discussion boxes (5 mins each) Play the video to your whole class using your IWB. Stop at each discussion box and introduce the issue. Give talk partners no more than 2/3 mins to discuss each problem. Then select some pupils to feed back their responses to the class for a further 2/3 mins or so. Continue the video to the next discussion box. And so on. I’ve included a set of teacher prompts to improve pupil responses to the discussion boxes. NB: You don’t need to purchase my actual book from Amazon in order to use this resource.
