An entire SoL focussed on oracy and developing academic discussion. The unit of work zooms in on a different character from a Shakespearean play and looks at them using feminist, race or gender theory to challenge students’ thinking. SoL is easily adaptable to be changed into a reading focus. There is an oracy assessment built in to the slides. Lessons 1-4: build context of Shakespeare and critical theory Lessons 5-13: A series of extracts which can be taught in any order. Lesson 14-17: Oracy Assessment planning and completing. Has both a official version and simplified version. Mark scheme adapted to a feedback sheet with space for teacher feedback or closing the gap task and student response to feedback. This will be good for Paper 1 and section A + B of paper 2.

A lesson on plotting the the key events of The Odyssey in chronological order on a blank map. Glue in map and talk through what happens and, as you talk through each one, students can plot it and draw a picture based on the writing on the slide. This would work well with KS3 or KS4 as you can make it more challenging for GCSE Classical Civilisations.

An entire half-term SoL for the study of the book of Nick and Charlie by Alice Oseman . It includes reading, writing and oracy tasks throughout and explores themes of masculinty, technology, relationships and moving away. Some extracts provided, but not a full copy of the book. SoL is target at Y9+ as the book contains some swearing and explicit language. This SoL could be used as part of wider diverse writers unit or as part of an extra-curricular club or as a stand-alone SoL.

Lesson 1 focuses on new vocabulary and characteristics of myth. Lesson 2 focuses on context of ancient Greece specifically. There is also a worksheet that goes with lesson 2 but this can be ignored and a different type of note-taking can be used.

The MAT includes structures, sentence starters and an example paragraph on ACC. This is designed with the AQA exam board in mind. However, the style of analytical writing is a good scaffold for KS3 and other exam boards.
