Primary to Secondary Liaison Information

This information sheet works well for Primary teachers to pass on information to their pupils’ teachers at Secondary School. While the sheets contain some of the information which will also be passed on in the pupils’ files, this presents a nice summary of what heads of year, form tutors and teachers need to know about their new pupils. This worked very well at my school when we had a multitude of feeder schools as it enabled us to standardise the information we received from all. Colour-coding the sheets, i.e. photocopying them onto different coloured paper according to the feeder schools prior to taking them to the Primary Schools will make it easier to see later how many pupils from the various feeder schools have been grouped into each tutor group. The box at the end can contain some additional information the Primary teacher would like the Secondary School to know about. I used this box to make notes on the pupils when I visited all my feeder schools in the summer term and discussed my future tutees with their teachers at the Primaries.

France and the French Quiz

(0)
A differentiated quiz with 45 fact-packed questions for 50 points. This activity is based on the topics of arts, history and politics, geography, food and drink, travel and tourism in France. Three levels of differentiation with answer sheets! It is advised that learners should use an electronic device, e.g. computer, notebook or at least a mobile phone in order to research their answers. The two answer sheets differ only in that one is in English and the other in French. All questions are the same at all levels on all 3 question sheets, though one English version has the number of points to be gained written into each section and into answer boxes if more than 1 point to help learners. The medium version is all in English with no hints for amount of points. The harder version is all in French, no hints of points and comes with its own French answer sheet. Please kindly respect the time it took to put this quiz together and do not share this resource with colleagues anywhere unless you or they have purchased the school licence. If you and your students enjoy this quiz then please leave me a review and check back soon to see what else is new in my store. Thank you, ©MosaiK

Get your learners talking about kitchen utensils and equipment. Learners are encouraged to name the many illustrated items, describe their use and discuss what skills they will apply when using them. The presentation contains 10 slides and starts by showing all items used in the games. Further slides concentrate on a few skills at a time before bringing all items together again at the end. There is a reminder to ‘think safety’ on each slide. It is left to the teacher to decide how to exploit the slides which are kept simple. A vocabulary list contains the terminology for the items in the pictures. This can be used to differentiate for weaker students. The board game and cards are available in A4 or A3 format. The board game is self-explanatory - The square with the question mark can be determined at will. The cards can be printed for use as mini-flashcards or if printed on card and/or laminated could be used for ‘snap’ or ‘pairs’. If you and your learners enjoyed this pack, you may like to consider my Kitchen utensils and equipment workbook here: /teaching-resource/food-tech-kitchen-equipment-7-page-workbook-ideal-for-cover-revision-class-work-homework-11810428 Out of fairness to me and to reflect the time I spent designing these, please be sure to purchase a school license if you intend to use these as a whole school initiative. ©MosaiK

Primary to Secondary liaison pupil transition activity

This activity works well for Primary pupils to introduce themselves to their teachers at secondary school. The pupils write their best answers to each of the questions in this writing frame. The class teacher or teaching assistant would discuss this with the pupils and encourage them to use their best handwriting and give as much detail as they can fit into the boxes. The sheets are then passed to the transition coordinator at the relevant secondary school. This worked very well at my school when we had a multitude of feeder schools as it enabled us to get the same information from all. Colour-coding the sheets, i.e. photocopying them onto different coloured paper according to the feeder schools prior to taking them to the Primary Schools will make it easier to see later how many pupils from the various feeder schools have been grouped into each tutor group.

ESL English Easter thinking skills

At two ability levels, this English Easter resource contains all necessary (chocolate?) ingredients for learners to resolve a logic puzzle. Cue cards with puzzle clues, answer cards with pictures and names, grids to enter their solution and more. There is an English word list to support foundation level learners depending on their ability and knowledge. The list is constructed as a table, so the ESL learner can insert their own language in the second column. The puzzle comes with a play mat onto which learners will place picture cards as they read through and discuss the clues and solve the puzzle. An answer grid in large or small formats will enable learners to eliminate combinations as they get closer to solving the puzzle. A document with suggestions for use and differentiation is included. This puzzle appears to be getting more difficult as it progresses, so always make sure your answers fit the clues on the cards!
