GCSE Religious Studies Christianity revision duel-coding quote cards with accompanying PowerPoint to use when testing. This is ideal for AQA but does work with other exam boards. This includes a word document with 13 Christianity quotes. Each quote has 4 cards:
A picture with the quote
A picture with the quote but some words blanked out
A picture with no quote
A card with an explanation of the quote for context
Students are to revise and then consistently be quizzed using the PowerPoint to activate recall and retrieval. The PowerPoint shows only the images and students are to write the associated quote. The second part of the PowerPoint has the answers so that students can self-assess.
A guide would be to set a pass mark, that increases by 2-marks with each time the activity is repeated. Start the first quiz with no pass mark so that students are able to familiarise themselves without any pressure, then set the pass mark to quite low for the first quiz that has a pass mark. If a student doesn’t meet the pass mark, ideally set a retest outside of lesson time - this is not a detention, but an agreed plan for a quick 5 minute re-test to help them progress.
