Halloween Creative Writing SoW - 'The Haunted Pen'

(0)
The Haunted Pen: Creative Writing Scheme of Work This six-lesson creative writing scheme, entitled The Haunted Pen, is designed to engage Key Stage 2 or 3 students in the art of spooky storytelling. Each lesson builds upon the last, guiding students through the process of crafting their own chilling narratives, developing their skills in creating atmosphere, character, and setting. Lesson 1: Spooky Story Starters The first lesson introduces students to the world of horror writing with differentiated sentence starters that suit a range of abilities. These prompts are designed to spark their imaginations and get them thinking about the themes of fear, suspense, and the supernatural. Students are encouraged to brainstorm and share ideas, setting the tone for the scheme. Lesson 2: Creepy Character Profiles In this lesson, students dive into character creation, exploring what makes a truly terrifying villain or mysterious protagonist. You’ll provide them with examples of well-thought-out character profiles, helping them understand how to craft detailed, eerie characters. Students then create their own spooky characters, which will be key elements in their final story. Lesson 3: Scary Setting Description This lesson focuses on the power of setting in horror. Using two model answers you’ve written, students will compare and contrast the effectiveness of each description—discussing why one is strong and how the other improves upon it. After this analysis, the class will embark on a virtual tour of a haunted house through an embedded VR video, providing an immersive experience to inspire their own setting descriptions. Lesson 4: Haunted House Audio Drama Shifting to an audio medium, students will write a script for a haunted house scene. They will record their scripts as a class, focusing on how dialogue and sound can enhance the fear factor. This lesson emphasizes the power of voice and sound effects in building tension, offering a different way to explore their stories. Lesson 5: The Final Piece In this penultimate lesson, students bring together everything they’ve worked on—creepy characters, spooky settings, and a compelling story structure—to write their final haunted tale. They’ll use what they’ve learned about tension, pacing, and atmosphere to create a cohesive, spine-chilling narrative. Lesson 6: Sharing the Frights The final lesson is dedicated to peer review and sharing. Students will have the opportunity to read or listen to each other’s stories, offering feedback and celebrating the creative results of their hard work. The Haunted Pen encourages students to explore creative writing in a fun, seasonal way, while developing key literacy skills through differentiated activities, multimedia resources, and peer collaboration. This scheme is perfect for unlocking their imaginations and making the art of writing exciting and memorable

Murder, Mayhem & Macbeth: Original Mini SoW

(0)
This is an engaging mini scheme of work on Shakespeare’s “Macbeth.” This resource includes a completely original, aesthetically themed PowerPoint divided into 4 lessons, each featuring tailored lesson objectives, starter activities, main tasks, and plenaries. However, this can easily be spread into 8 lessons or so; I just happened to have split it into 4 as it was taught with a top set class who had already done some preparation lessons prior to this. The main idea is to decide, through prepared debate, whether Macbeth is to blame for his actions or whether someone else has more responsibility (for instance Lady Macbeth). The Lessons: Lesson 1: Bloody Betrayals Beginning (introduction to SoW and assigning roles) Lesson 2: Dagger of the Mind’s Evidence (collating evidence) Lesson 3: Witches’ Whispers: Witness Warfare (speaking to witnesses) Lesson 4: Tomorrow & Tomorrow’s Verdict (final trial & reflections) Additionally, you’ll receive separate Word documents for a Macbeth psychology report and a Witness Credibility chart, enabling in-depth character analysis and critical thinking. Perfect for bringing the courtroom drama of “Macbeth” to life, this resource is ideal for fostering student engagement and understanding of complex themes.

2025 GCSEs! Power & Conflict Informed Question Predictions

NO GUARANTEES. When we say informed, we are in no way affiliated with AQA. We mean informed in the sense we have provided educated predictions through research and information of past papers that are of course common knowledge. This resource was made purely to combat the threat of social media predictions (specifically TikTok). They are dangerous to students, often unfounded, and simply clickbait. This resource is a short PowerPoint, of educated predictions from a GCSE English teacher, used with their own class, that are considered through nothing other than factual information of past papers.

NEW! ORIGINAL! Colour-Coded Differentiated Reading Spring Story

(0)
Introducing an innovative short story resource designed to cater to a range of reading abilities! This engaging story is presented in three distinct versions: the blue version targets age 4 reading ability, the orange version is aimed at age 8, and the green version suits age 12. Each version is thoughtfully divided into chapters, allowing students to switch levels seamlessly at the end of any chapter. For example, the age 4 Chapter 2 will perfectly lead into the age 12 Chapter 3, making it ideal for classrooms with students of varying reading levels. This flexibility allows teachers to guide students of different abilities to engage with the same narrative, fostering a collaborative reading experience. The teacher can simply show the corresponding color to indicate which version the students should read, enabling smooth transitions and effective differentiation. This original idea promotes subtle scaffolding, helping students practice and shift between ability levels as they develop their reading skills. As this is a new concept, we are excited to gather feedback and, depending on its success, we plan to release more stories in the future. Enhance your classroom with this versatile storytelling tool that supports all learners!
