1.1 The expected development norms from one to five years
A revision handout (6 pages) to help students understand the development milestones from birth to five years. Covers all relevant development areas with key terms highlighted to encourage learners to use these definitions in their assessments.
2.1 Types of Play – 2.2 Stages of Play – 2.3 Benefits on Development
Also included is a table (6 pages) that looks at all aspects of play from birth to 5 years with suggestions of activities and how they develop and benefit the child holistically.
3.1 – A handout of information on the main types of observations carried in settings that students can read through in preparation for their work placement observations or preparing for their assessment. To support this there is a task sheet that enables them to evaluate the type, methods of recording, the advantages and disadvantages of each, how findings can be used to support all development areas and behaviours and finally how confidentiality and storing of evidence can be maintained safely.
I found this a useful exercise to complete when access to IT for independent research wasn’t available. It can be done in groups in the classroom or set as homework or for independent study. It enables students to consider their preferred method when planning activities to be observed with their chosen child or children or when completing their assessment.
4.1 - An example of a narrative observation with reflection and further recommendations. Good as a starting point before students complete their own observations and activities.
Word documents that are adaptable to suit needs of group.
