A KS2 science experiment that examines the effect of pressure on banana skins by wrapping elastic bands around a banana. Students will the examine the bruises formed on the banana and examine the difference in bruise sized based on the level of pressure placed on the banana. This will then open a conversation about pressure sores, hygiene and help develop empathy skills.

Pressure ulcers (pressure sores or bed sores) are areas of damage to your skin and the tissue underneath. You have a higher chance of getting them if you have difficulty moving. Pressure ulcers usually form on bony parts of the body, such as the heels, elbows, hips and tailbone. If left untreated, they can get worse and eventually reach deeper layers of skin or muscle and bone.
