Resources FAQs

LAST UPDATED 09 OCTOBER 2023

Downloading Resources

My resource hasn't downloaded. What should I do?

We understand it's frustrating when you can't download a resource you really need. First, ensure that you have waited long enough to give the resource time to download. Larger resources will take longer to download and if you leave the page too early the automatic file download will not complete.

Check that the internet browser (the program you use to view the internet) you are using to access the Tes website is up-to-date. We suggest using Google Chrome as our site is optimised for this browser.  If you are using an old version of a browser this can sometimes affect website performance.

If you're still having trouble please email the details to us at resources@tes.com. Be sure to include the link to the resource and its exact title so that we can help.

Why can't I open a resource file?

Before buying/downloading a resource, check the listed file types so that you are sure you have the correct software installed in order to open the files. Some of the uploaded files will have been created for specific applications and interactive whiteboards. If so desired there are some viewers available, or alternatively there are limited trial versions that you can install from other websites.

If you think you should be able to, but you can't open a resource file, make sure the file you want to open has downloaded completely. The amount of time a file takes to download will depend on the size of the file and the speed of your internet connection. If you leave the page before the download completes you can find the files in your Downloads page here in order to re-download them.

How do I contact a resource author?

Before attempting to contact the author, Tes might be able to help.

One option is to use the review function on the resource page to let the author know your thoughts about their specific resource. It is also possible to do this by clicking the star rating on your list of downloads here. If there’s a problem with the resource, use our ‘report this resource’ form that is linked at the bottom of the resource page so that we can solve the problem for you, contacting the author if necessary.

Some authors choose to provide contact details on their Tes Shop pages or within their resource files. They may also include links to their social media pages where they are willing to be contacted.

If you are having difficulty contacting a resource author, please email resources@tes.com (with the URL link for the resource so that we can identify the author) and we can message them on your behalf. Sometimes the author will permit us to send you their email address for direct contact.

I've spotted resource content that I feel is inappropriate. Can I report it?

es. If you see a resource that you feel is inappropriate you can contact us by clicking on the '' link on the resource page or you can email us directly at resources@tes.com. Be sure to include the resource URL link and the reason you believe it is inappropriate.

As we are a community site, we have always encouraged our users to send feedback to each other and to evaluate resource quality through our rate and review system. It is our policy not to edit or change resource files unless they breach our terms and conditions. Resources that do not adhere to our terms and conditions may be removed from the website.

If you believe a resource contains material that you own and that you have not given permission to be used in this manner, please see our  for details of how you can get in touch.

Buying Resources

Why are some resources free and some paid?

The decision to allow teachers to charge for the resources they share was made based on feedback from our author community.

We recognise that many people share on a goodwill basis. The Tes website remains free to join and anyone who wants to upload new free content can still do so. It is the decision of the individual author whether they wish to charge, and how much to charge, for their resources.

Can I preview a resource before I buy it?

The preview section on each resource page allows you to get a sense of the quality of the resource, to help you decide whether you would like to purchase/download it or not. The preview image expands to be viewed more clearly when clicked. Some authors even offer alternative free samples/versions of their paid-for content to enable you to judge the quality of their products before choosing to buy from them - click on the author’s shop name to see their collection of available resources.

Can I buy resources on behalf of my school?

Yes, you have the option to add a School Licence (multi-user licence) to the resource. This option appears as a tick box on all paid resource pages, beneath the 'Buy Now' button. This licence covers all the same permissions as the current Teaching Resource License but with additions to permit the purchaser to share the resource with up to 25 colleagues within their institution. You can view the full terms of this licence  - this licence can also be viewed from the link at the side of the payment page.

To share it, you are permitted to download the resource and email/transfer it directly to the colleagues who require it, but not to re-host the files on another platform.

Can you provide a VAT receipt for my purchase?

When you purchase a resource, we will send you an e-receipt containing our VAT information. This will be sent to the email address your account is registered with. If you don't receive your e-receipt, check that it has not been filtered into your junk email folder. If you still cannot find it please email us at resources@tes.com so that we can ensure you are sent a duplicate. The automatic email receipt is suitable for VAT and tax reporting purposes.

What can I do if there is a problem with a resource I have purchased?

If there is a problem with a resource that you have purchased, you should use the ‘report this resource’ form  to let us know about the problem within 48 hours of purchase. You may be eligible for a refund in the following circumstances:

  • If the resource contains infringement of someone’s intellectual property
  • If the resource has a technical fault that cannot be resolved
  • If the resource is not as described in the resource description and the previews
  • If the resource is offensive or inappropriate

Bundles

How do I download a bundle?

Resource bundles should download automatically after payment like any other resource, but it is important to wait for your bundle to finish downloading. However, if you are having trouble downloading the resources from a bundle you have bought, please follow these instructions.

  • Go back to the resource page you purchased from. If you can’t find it through search, check your inbox for the email confirming your purchase which will guide you back to the resource.
  • Scroll down the page until you see 'Resources Included.' You may need to scroll across in this section to view each of the included resources.
  • Click on the relevant resource image to take you to the individual resource page where you can click ‘Download’ on the right hand side.  This will download the resource in a  zip file. These will then be located in your device’s download folder. You can re-download a resource at any time from the 'Downloads' tab (on your left-hand-side navigation menu or the dropdown menu when you click your user icon). If you successfully downloaded your bundle upon purchase, all the resources will be added to your downloads list and state ‘In bundle’ next to them.

Ratings and Reviews

How do I rate and review a resource?

There are two ways that you can leave a review for a resource. You can only leave a review on a resource that you have bought or already downloaded.

You can use the review function on the resource page to let the author know your thoughts about their specific resource, selecting a star rating and leaving a comment. If you are leaving a one or two star rating it is required that you explain the reason in a comment.

It is also possible to review resources by clicking the star rating next to the resource on your list of downloads here.

Can a resource author reply to my reviews?

Yes, authors have the ability to respond to a review of their resources. This enables sellers to connect with their customers and provide appropriate support or guidance. After an author has replied to a review, the original reviewer is able to leave a further comment in case it is needed in solving an issue. However the number of replies is restricted as this is not a feature designed for discussion. If further contact is needed between authors and users this can be facilitated by contacting resources@tes.com.

Are Tes able to remove inappropriate reviews on resources?

We will remove a review from a resource page if we deem that:

  • The review is unlawful, threatening, abusive, harassing, defamatory, vulgar, obscene, libelous, invasive of another's privacy, hateful, or racially, ethnically or otherwise discriminatory
  • The review is based on a customer being unable to access it due to a technical error
  • The review makes untrue claims that are in contradiction to factual information supplied in the description

Click  to report a review, be sure to include the URL link details of the resource and the review, and why it should be removed.

Licences and 51

What are Creative Commons licences?

Creative Commons is a public copyright licence created to support the spirit of sharing for free in an open internet. The use of a Creative Commons licence means an author can give people the right to share, use and build upon a resource that they have created.

We're always listening to our users’ feedback and we know that being able to download, change, adapt and share resources is a key part of a teacher’s working life – Creative Commons facilitates and protects this process.

You can find more FAQs about Licensing and 51 here.

Which Creative Commons licences are used on Tes?

The most commonly used is the Attribution ShareAlike Creative Commons (CC-BY-SA) licence. This means that the author has shared the resource for free and gives permission to others to share it in the same way.

Slight variations apply to the Attribution and No derivative licences. Click on the links below to find out more about each.

  •  (CC-BY-SA)- Share and share alike.
  •  (CC-BY)- Share openly.
  •  (CC-BY-ND)- Share, but don't modify.

You can find more FAQs about Licensing and 51 here.

Can I use content I download from Tes to share with other teachers online?

All resources shared under Creative Commons licences require attribution. Other restrictions include:

  • “NDz-پ” which means you may only use the content as it appears and in full (you cannot partially use it, or change it).
  • “NDz-dz” which means you cannot use the content for commercial purposes (any content with this licence cannot be used for paid resources).
  • ٳ󲹰-” content may only be included when the resource it appears in is licensed under the same licence as the content being used.
