Study plans
This guide will go through how you can assign mandatory, and optional, 51ºÚÁÏ and professional development courses to your staff using Study plans.
Whether it is mandatory 51ºÚÁÏ training for current staff, onboarding for new staff, or professional development assigned by a line manager, Study plans will help you set the right courses for the right people.
Watch our video below to see how you can assign courses to your staff:
To use Study plans, head to the My team button on the Develop home page and you will see the Study plans ³Ù¾±±ô±ð.Ìý
Ìý
Click into there and you will be presented with any current or previous study plans that have been made.
Ìý
Ìý
You can click on the Edit plan button at any time to change the details of your plans or use the bin icon to delete them.
To set up a new plan, select the Add new plan button at the top of the page.
You will then be presented with two options:
- Recurring study plan - allows you to assign courses for all users that can be set to renew every one to five years
- Single study plan - allows you to assign one-off courses to individuals or groups
Pick which study plan you would like to select and follow the steps.

Recurring study plans
Here you can choose the school (if you are part of a MAT) you want to assign the study plan to, the Plan name, Start date, and Duration. The Duration indicates how often this study plan will recur. If you are part of a MAT, the admins of the MAT level organisation are able to use the Apply to all child organisations button to assign a study plan to the group.
Ìý
Ìý
Once you have entered your preferred options, select Next and move on to step two.
Here you can choose the courses you want to select from the drop-down, underneath Course name. You can select multiple courses and select an end date for each course. Once you have chosen the course, select Add course to planÌýfor that course to be assigned.
Ìý
Ìý
Once you have completed this, select Next to go to the final step.
The third and final step is to Review your Recurring study plan. This is simply a step for you to look through the study plan you have created and make sure that it is all correct. When you are ready, select Publish plan at the bottom to set this live. Please note: your staff will receive an email on the start date to inform them of their new course assignments and deadlines. If you are not ready to publish, select Back to study plans and your study plan will be saved (but not published).

Ìý
Single study plan
Step one is similar to the Recurring study plans. You can choose the school (if you are part of a MAT) you want to assign the study plan to, the Plan name, Start date, andÌýEnd dateÌý(which can be disabled).
Ìý
Ìý
When you are ready to move on, select Next to move on to the next step.
Step two is where you add courses to your study plan. Here you can choose the courses you want to select from the drop-down, underneath Course name. You can select multiple courses. You can enable and choose the course end date to set a deadline for each course, or disable it for courses not to have an end date. Once you have found the course and chosen the end date, click Add course to plan to secure your selection.
If you click on the Advanced settings toggle, you can switch the course status between Mandatory and Optional by having the box ticked, or unticked. Here you can also choose to set a duration for the courses (rather than an end date) to give staff a guideline for when courses have to be completed by.Ìý
Ìý
Ìý
Click Next to move to step three to add users to your study plan.
Once in here, you can choose to add All users or Selected users. When selecting users, you can choose from Groups of users and Individual users. Select an option (either a group or a user) and once chosen, select Add Group/User to add them to the study plan. You can add a combination of user types.
Ìý
Ìý
When you are ready, click Next to move on to step four.
This step is once again a time for you to reviewÌýthe study plan you have made.ÌýWhen you are ready, select Publish plan at the bottom to set this live. Please note: your staff will receive an email on the start date to inform them of their new course assignments and deadlines. If you are not ready to publish, select Back to study plans and your study plan will be saved (but not published).
Ìý
Ìý
When you have made your study plan, it will be kept within the Study plans section of the My team area.
All courses that have been set for staff will appear on their home page and in their My learning area.
You can now begin to use the Study plans report to track the progress of courses set in study plans.
