Position Profile

•        Direct UK teaching experiences preferred

•        Minimum 2 years AS/AL/IGCSE (and EPQ) teaching experience in the relevant area

•        Degree in area of expertise for teaching

•        Teaching qualification (PGCE, QTS, MEd or equivalent)

Specific Responsibilities of Teaching Position

•        To plan and deliver lessons according to Scheme of Work using a variety of learning activities.

•        To create and conduct assessments according to departmental schemes of assessment and produce reports which meet the required standards in a timely fashion

•        To regularly assess student performance, provide constructive feedback, and design appropriate evaluations to monitor progress and identify areas for improvement.

•        To collaborate with colleagues and contribute to a positive and collaborative work environment, sharing best practices and resources.

•        Opportunities for teaching EPQ (projects) & GNT (Gifted and talented)

Brief Description of SCIE

UK curriculum high school (Cambridge International AS/AL & IGCSE) teaching through the medium of English to mainly Chinese students preparing for overseas universities.

·       Accreditation – Fully accredited by Council of International Schools (CIS) & WASC (Western Association of Schools and Colleges in US) and regional members of FOBISIA & EARCOS

Subject Department Introduction:

The Humanities and Social Sciences Faculty has 41 teachers, with Sociology offered as an optional subject across 4 AS level and 3 A level classes. We are looking for a committed teacher who has a passion for the subject and is able to deliver engaging lessons which develop students’ intellectual curiosity. An enthusiasm for supporting extracurricular activities is highly desirable. We have many students who go on to study Sociology and related courses at leading universities, including Oxbridge and the Ivy League.

Schedule

·       Working week: Monday – Friday 07:50 – 16:30 (with 07:30 start Mondays and early finish 15:00 Fridays)

·       Normal contact teaching time – 24 x 40-minute periods per week (approx. 50% timetable)

·       Personal time – 6 periods per week fixed in timetable when do not need to be at work.

·       Extra-Curricular Activity – 1 hour per week ECA after school (16:30 – 17:30)

·       CPD – large range of professional development available both online and face-to-face.

·       Holidays – 1 week for October China National Day holiday, 2 weeks Christmas holiday, 3 weeks Chinese New Year holiday, Chinese public holidays, mid-June to early August Summer holiday.

Pastoral

•      Form tutor role – most teachers will take on a form group of 20 students with daily mentoring time on the timetable as well as teaching weekly additional period of PSHE. This role attracts an additional allowance

•      Pastoral CPD – mandatory 51ºÚÁÏ training as well as other pastoral CPD available

Shenzhen College of International Education:

Founded in 2003, SCIE is the city’s first full-time high school (Year 10 to Year 13) teaching an international curriculum. SCIE is a highly selective day and boarding school teaching an international curriculum to Chinese students preparing them for overseas universities. Using English as the medium of instruction and communication, SCIE offers IGCSE and GCE AS and A-levels, mainly through Cambridge International, and is expanding provision with the introduction of an AP stream. SCIE is accredited by the Council of International Schools (CIS) and the Accrediting Commission for Schools (ACS WASC). We are a member school of the regional organisations EARCOS and FOBISIA.

In August 2020, the College moved to its new purpose-built campus in Antuoshan, Shenzhen. The new site is fully equipped for the College expansion with smart classrooms, a large number of science laboratories, a 750-seat theatre, sports facilities and all that we need to facilitate the high quality teaching and learning of the College community. The top floor, with a comfortable staff lounge, gym and designated areas for meetings and CPD, is accessible to staff only. Staff are housed in the separate adjacent staff block, which offers two and three-bedroom furnished apartments.

Antuoshan is in Futian, the CBD district of Shenzhen. The campus is within walking distance to international shops, supermarkets and restaurants. It is a stone's throw away from the Antuo Hill subway station, giving easy and convenient access to the city’s extensive metro network.
