St Mary’s is a popular and successful residential special school and college for pupils/students aged 5 to 19 with speech, language and communication needs, learning difficulties and other associated SEND.
We welcome applications from highly successful and experienced primary, secondary, mainstream or special school teachers or qualified swimming instructors. We are especially interested in hearing from candidates who have successfully worked with children with complex SEND in their current or previous experience. We would like to appoint a teacher or an instructor who is able to adapt well to new challenges and is committed to raising achievement and who have the ability to demonstrate outstanding practice and high ambition for our pupils/students.
We can offer a very high-quality learning environment, a friendly and welcoming staff team, including an onsite therapy team, access to excellent resources and our pupils/students are a delight to work with!
The successful candidates will demonstrate:
• An understanding & interest in SEND, with experience in working with pupils/students
requiring additional support in accessing the curriculum;
• The ability to ensure aspirational pupil/student progress for all pupils/students, regardless of their prior attainment, which at St Mary's is significantly below age related expectations;
• The ability to work effectively within a team, providing direction to support staff delivering
targeted intervention programmes.
If the successful candidate does not hold QTS, they must hold a recognised swimming qualification (STA Level 2 Certificate in Teaching swimming, ASA Level 2 or equivalent) and have knowledge of Health and Safety and relevant legislation relevant to teaching swimming.
