MPW Cambridge is seeking a highly motivated, forward thinker who is organised and experienced, to bring personal flare and dedication into a new team/department. The ideal candidate will support the efficient functioning of our premises, including maintaining maintenance schedules and the timely deliverance of new PMS around our small buildings. We also offer some small facilities support when possible.
We are currently Building a new Maintenance department from the ground up. We already have a Maintenance Manager and team operative working on bringing contractual preventive practical maintenance in house. We would like to offer this unique opportunity for you to come and join our new team.

MPW Cambridge is situated across two sites a short walk from each other in the heart of Cambridge. Our main site, located on Brookside, is a four-storey Victorian building. It houses bright and airy teaching rooms that accommodate class sizes ranging from one to nine students. Specialist teaching rooms include three science laboratories and an art room.
The Brookside building also accommodates two supervised study rooms, an ICT suite and an Internet library, plus a large exam room. MPW Cambridge is a registered centre for all awarding bodies and all public examinations are sat on the premises. There is also a student common room at Brookside that has a cafe that serves drinks and homemade hot and cold food.
Our sister site is located on Panton Street, which is adjacent to Brookside. Like our main site, it is a Victorian building spanning across four floors. It houses some of our largest teaching rooms and a further student common room.
Main Duties and Responsibilities:
The Role will include undertaking or overseeing repairs within the buildings we have situated in Cambridge. The new maintenance team will play a key role in delivering a high standard of maintenance and providing a safe, compliant, in listed buildings. Our aim is to ensure a comfortable working environment for our employees, students and visitors who hire function rooms, teach and learn in our classrooms. As these are dynamic buildings that have constant moving traffic, all reactive works will be planned and scheduled via the Freshdesk maintenance platform. We will oversee contractors and support when needed and ensure they are working to a high standard of completion. We will also oversee compliance contractors and ensure all handovers and job reports are correct before completion sign off.
Alongside the Facilities and Estates Manager you will take an active role in ensuring best practise on building management and operations, ensuring all compliance and health and safety best practise are upheld for all users of the facilities.
• Working closely with members of the MPW team and the various members of the project team during the final refurbishment and developments of the buildings.
• Provide input to the priorities for the ongoing refurbishment and maintenance of the Cambridge estate. Take an active role in delivering maintenance ppm solutions to the sites.
• Provide a first point of contact for both routine and emergency maintenance issues. Work with existing and new contractors to resolve issues in a cost effective and VFM manner.
• Report & Log all reactive maintenance issues on Freshdesk
• Ensure the buildings meets high standards of cleanliness and is a positive contributor to the school brand.
• Have a keen eye for cost savings and minimise wastage and environmental impact of the building and activities within.
• Work closely with the existing buildings management teams to ensure a well maintained and safe operating environment
• Maintain accurate records for health and safety, maintenance and other areas of statutory compliance – utilising the Hansom record system.
• Be aware of current legislation and keep updated on changes to health and safety, fire prevention and other areas of compliance.
Building management:
• Contribute to facilities management policies and procedures to ensure the effective operation of the premises.
• Familiarize yourself with maintenance and repair schedules of building systems, including HVAC, plumbing, electrical, and security systems.
• Coordinate with external contractors and service providers for maintenance, repairs, and renovations and ensuring appropriate quality and performance supervision
• Conduct regular inspections to identify maintenance needs and safety hazards.
• Work closely with the new maintenance team to deliver AAA Maintenance.
Health & Safety:
• Ensure compliance with health and safety regulations and industry standards.
• Ensuring that appropriate reporting/record management meets full compliance.
• Carry out all health & safety compliance.
Carry out any reasonable request from Management within the general scope and purpose of the position, including, room management and set ups, portering.
Promoting and 51 the welfare of the students for whom you are responsible and with whom you come into contact.
Hours of Work:
Predicated on 40 hours per week (full time) or on a part time basis if preferred. Due to the nature of the business this may include some flexible working hours, which may include some evening and weekend work as required by the business or the Estates Manager.
Salary:
£31,000 - £34,000 (full time) Depending on experience.

Mander Portman Woodward is a mixed, non-selective, non-denominational secondary school with sixth form situated in Cambridge. It is an independent school that forms part of the Mander Portman Woodward (MPW) group of schools, which also has schools in London and Birmingham. A smaller than average-sized secondary school, it will provide 240 places for secondary and sixth form students between the ages of 14-20, when fully subscribed.
The MPW organisation was established in 1973 as the “route to the UK’s top universities” for students. The Cambridge branch of MPW schools opened in 1987, occupying two linked Victorian houses and another nearby house.
