**A double lesson looking in detail at Questions 1,2&3 of the AQA English Language Paper 1 using an extract from Empire of The Sun. The students in this lesson will be able to develop their language and structure skills using very guided annotations and prompts on the board for language and structure. They will also be able to write good responses to the language and structure questions using sentence starters and model responses from the lesson.**

A lesson that studies in depth the character of Gerald Croft and questions whether he is a character to sympathise with in the end, or one that is just a womaniser. Contains key quotes, analysis points, questions for answering and a silent debating task at the end. Was used for an Observation and graded Outstanding!

A resource that can be taught walking talking style to go through the paper from June 2023 with two sources about trains. Teaching Q1,2,3,4,5 using exemplars for each.

A lesson focused on building character and setting in narrative writing. Includes videos, exemplar pieces of writing and annotations and plenty of writing and peer assessment opportunities. Created for AQA English Language Paper 1 Section B. Worked excellently with Year 11 higher ability but could easily be differentiated down for lower abilities.

A lesson exploring the key idea of kingship in Macbeth. Explores some key quotes, characters, ideas and a practice question on ‘Shakespeare’s lessons on kingship’. Has writing frames and opportunities for live modelling and peer assessment. Very scaffolded lesson!

A full Macbeth lesson exploring ideas of dishonesty and deceit in the play, even exploring how Shakespeare uses literary foils of characters to exacerbate the dishonesty and deceit of others. Contains many key quotes, a practice AQA style extract question, exemplar written paragraphs and writing frames etc. A very scaffolded lesson that can be picked up and taught without much adapting. Also includes a full GRADE 9 level response essay to the question.

A resource looking at rhetorical devices used in speeches and looking in detail at Pathos, Logos and Ethos as a means of appealing to an audience. Contains speech writing task, Michelle Obama speech and video, model speech opening and opportunity for peer assessment. Works excellent for teaching AQA Language Paper 2 speech writing and/or preparing for the spoken language endorsement.

A set of 3 lessons in one which looks at the layout and exemplars of Q1,2,3&4 with a few additional slides for prompting responses for Q5 - but more could be added to adapt this. Full mark schemes, extract, exemplar answers and writing frames included!

A resource looking at describing an image from the Trump Capitol protests. The lesson contains appropriate models, details on the drop-shift-zoom method, watching a news report to develop some literary techniques for our writing and use of colour imagery. Mostly suited to AQA English Language Paper 1 Section B, but definitely could be used universally for any descriptive writing question.

The students will be prompted to annotate the extract and work in groups using guided annotations on the lesson and will be able to write good responses to questions 2&3 for language and structure using the sentence starters and model responses provided on the lesson.

Lesson and full mark exemplar included. Lesson includes focus on what writing to explain means, what AO5 linguistic devices should be used when writing, how to plan a response and structure ideas, alongside a full mark exemplar response that can be printed and annotated alongside students in order to show them how to embed particular devices into their writing. AQA specific but could be used as just a general article writing lesson out of context.

A lesson I used to walk and talk my class through this paper that they sat for a mock exam. Can be tweaked very slightly for genric WTM style lesson. Include writing frames and exemplars, plus Q5 examples. Deals with Q2,3,4,5 only.

A lesson exploring a few key quotations looking at the idea of the poor in the novella as being always pushed to the periphery in society. Opportunities for writing and to openly explore the quotations as a group. Printable resource included in PPT. Written exemplar paragraph and question with success criteria provided on PPT.

A lesson exploring a made up exam question in relation to the way Dickens uses children within the novella to deliver a key message on social responsbility and the need for a philanthropy. Writing frames, quotations, annotated extract and resources all provided in PPT.
