A PowerPoint resource for Seamus Heaney’s Blackberry-Picking. The poem is broken into small pieces and explained with key words underlined with several questions posed to students. The meaning of certain phrases in the poem is also explored for example Heaney’s personification of the blackberries.

This lesson focuses on the fight scene between Curley and Lennie in Of Mice and Men. The emphasis is on how Steinbeck uses language to describe both men and why this is an important moment in the text. The lesson is structured in such a way whereby students start with a ‘Do Now’ and have an opportunity to give their points across through classroom discussion and think-pair-share. There are also main tasks to consolidate the learning and ending with a plenary. This is lesson 17 from a 24 lesson scheme of work that I have created and is available as a bundle. Included is a 40 page SoW that goes through each lesson.

An interview lesson for a mixed ability group of year 7 students introducing them to the poem. The lesson opens by tapping into students’ initial thoughts of what things they do during Half Term Break (Mid Term Break). Sheets that are used for students to analyze some of Macbeth’s soliloquies in the play. The resource has the soliloquy and poses questions for the students to have an in depth analysis.

This PowerPoint is a general introduction to AFOREST and how it can be used in Room 101. This lesson can be easily changed for remote learning as it has elements of both remote and classroom learning. The structure is based on a ‘Do Now’ followed by a ‘Think-Pair-Share’ activity. It then allows the teacher to teach AFOREST in the way they wish depending on the groups ability. The PowerPoint then has a quiz that can be altered adhering to the school and a sample paragraph where students are to highlight/underline AFOREST techniques. The lesson ends with an individual writing task, followed by a plenary.

This lesson analyses Bishop’s In the Waiting Room in a stanza by stanza manner by pointing out certain poetic techniques. This comes after students are asked for their first impression of the poem as a starter.

This lesson gives students an idea of how climate change will effect our world in various forms. The main activity is to get students analyzing all possibly causes (both positive and negative) and write what effect this will have on people and the environment. This is shown on a printable mind-map.

This lesson teaches students about Europe in terms of location, cities and also rivers through multiple exercises. There is also a quiz where students have to guess the European country. This can be done with an aided map in the students’ diary depending on the group. There are also printable maps where students can write the location of Europe on both a ‘Global Scale’ and ‘Regional Scale’.

A summary of Roald Dahls short story ‘First Day’. This have been used with a mixed ability Year 7 group after we worked on an a piece of writing about their first day in seconday school.

Within the starter, students are asked about their own desires which links to the story by Guy de Maupassant. As this was the first text from their Exedcel coursework, the structure of the coursework is explained before reading the text. The analysis of the text is mainly student-led where students are to search for language and structre in pairs.
