I use this type of activity as part of a standard repertoire for a starter or a plenary for fact-based learning. It may not be trendy- but assimilating facts is pretty-much the cornerstone of chemistry learning, but pupils don't like it. This sort of activity makes it more entertaining, and with bigger classes you can do it as a race. I have small classes sources so I do it as a timed exercise over successive lessons. This is a simple writing frame that I use to get pupils STARTED on the Personal Statement. I find getting them going to be the hardest point- once they have stuff I can work with it, but frequently they don't get going (or bibble on about their passion and their character-developing Peruvian-nose-flute voluntourist trips to the amazon; frankly, that's just tedious- less passion, more penetration please). So I wrote a really basic guide. It works well with all abilities as it's simple and clear. IT IS NOT FOR THE US THOUGH, they care much more about aforementioned Peruvian-nose-flute self development...

It's a good resource that has been revised as the syllabus updates.

Starter or revision activity for Learning shapes of molecules based on VSEPR I use this as a plenary to accompany my lesson notes, and as end of course revision. This is available as a bundle.

Whole Lesson I wrote these notes for a pupil who was off school for a very long time, and they proved successful. Links to Khan academy and activities based on this. Those of you who don't believe in the flipped classroom- no worries, just use this as a standard worksheet alongside excellent classroom teaching. Covers basics of equilibria, rate Kc and is designed to free up the teacher from didactic lecturing, to pupil-centred assisting with overcoming misconceptions.

Fine for cover or for prep. Can be used to supplement textbook or pupil's own notes. Flipping the classroom seems to be the new trendy teaching method. Included are weblink and suggested reading. You could easily give this to pupils in advance of the lesson with the expectation that they will watch the web links and complete the reading, bringing any areas of difficulty into the classroom. You can then maximise your teaching effectiveness by only dealing with the difficulties. If Ofsted are about- includes Learning objectives and assessment statements- an easy way to demonstrate you are at least ticking their boxes. Alternatively, it is really for supporting pupils with the more challenging topics.
