5 Activities Based around Rap music that i have used to engage some hard to engage students

This resource gets students to research and write short speeches. It can be used for EL2 to L2. I used it with lower ability post 16 students but can be adapted for higher ability.

I have adapted this from an old Food Tech lesson I used to do, catering on a budget. This would also be good for Life skills. It is aimed at post 16 students but could be used for 14+ students. I have left it so you can alter prices and budgets. Prices are from Supermarket websites. The recipe book for the meals is included in 3 files that can be stapled together with your own cover.

Work out the meaning of words from their context without a dictionary, then check using a dictionary.

This worksheet is based around the new specification for English. It includes reading, spelling and using a dictionary. This is for EL2 -3. Could also be used with SEN and Primary. Would make a good cover lesson. The texts come from the book INK ME by RICHARD SCRIMGER. The whole book is written phonetically, as in the first piece of text, from the point of view of the main character who has learning difficulties. ISBN 978-1-4598-0016-8. It is available on Amazon.

A short presentation to teach the bus stop method of division, I used this with students in Yr 11 who still could not divide. I use my white board pen to complete the examples on this but you can change that if you want.

This resource has been written to support students with extending simple sentences to compound and complex sentences. It has been written for Functional Skills EL3 students but could also be used to revise the subject for L1 and L2 students. The worksheet is an extended version of my one for EL2-3 students, consisting of 4 more pages of activities, and takes them step by step towards more varied and interesting writing. A worksheet based around 2 reports on Grenfell Tower, includes comparing Texts, comprehension, and a writing task. This was written for post 16 students and may not be suitable for younger students due to subject.

You can make this easier by Hi-Lighting the places on the map and the names of the places on the worksheet in different colours.

This PPT is just over 2 minutes long and is automated. It starts with 1 minute silence then In Flanders Field is read and finishes with the last post.

Original presentation was not mine. I added some links to videos to it and also did a less hard hitting (sanitised) version which has a Band of Brothers clip of the discovery of the concentration camps on it (9 minutes long). this is probably best used as part of a lesson or Tutor time.
