These Worksheets provide an (almost) unlimited number of practice questions for your students dividing a 4-digit dividend by a 1-digit divisor, either using the standard algorithm or any informal method (such as the short or bus stop) you may teach.
Set 1: Division of 4-digit numbers by 1-digit numbers without remainders, generating pages of questions, each with a different divisor - 2,3,4,5,6,7,8 and 9 and the last one a mix of 2 to 9
All the divisions will produce an exact answer.
Set 2: Division of 4-digit numbers by 1-digit numbers with remainders, generating pages of questions, each with a different divisor - 2,3,4,5,6,7,8 and 9 and the last one a mix of 2 to 9
Solutions are generated every time you create a new worksheet.
Almost unlimited number of practice questions?
From the description above, you can see that you have a minimum of 18 different worksheets, if you wanted your students to work on every divisor from 2 to 9 individually or mixed up. However you may want some students to practice more on one than another, or you may also want to give groups of students individualized worksheets but all with the same divisor i.e. different dividends. So you have potentially an unlimited source of worksheets.
How ? ⌠by clicking on any randomiser buttons - all the 4-digit dividends will change - and you have a brand new Worksheet. The possibilities now become almost (almost) endless and you will have resources for classwork, homework, revision, regular practice to keep the skill alive throughout the year , and individualize the task to the level you want.

This investigation looks into estimating the size of a large population of objects by taking samples and applying some basic mathematics. It encourages sharing of data, refining methods of collection of the data and discussions about the accuracy and limitations of the method used.
Jacobâs Method of counting large numbers of objects involves dividing a given area into equal size areas. Estimate (by counting) the population of one square then multiply this by the number of squares in the grid.
What happens if you use different size grids ? How do the estimates compare ? What happens if you take all the estimates in the class and find the range and mean ? How close are they all to the real number ? These and many more questions are laid out on the worksheet provided along with a number of prepared pictures with & without grids for printing or viewing on a computer.
Content
Teachers Notes
An overview of Jacobâs Method and a guide to the Worksheets
Estimation Worksheet
A guide for the students on how to use Jacobâs Method and record the data.
A list of questions for discussion.
Estimation Crowds
Designed to be used as a starter with the studentâs worksheet, it contains 2 crowds of different densities.
Pupils start with guessing the size of each crowd, then estimate with a 6 square grid & 24 square grid using Jacobâs Method.
**Estimation Samples **
14 pictures to choose from: crowds, stars, trees, bricks, flowers, balloons, birds in flight and more.
Pupils estimate with no grid, a 6 square grid & 24 square grid, and are encouraged to experiment further with other grid sizes of their own.
Estimation Sample 3
7 more pictures to choose from, but this time the distribution of the populations are not so even or regular, so its more challenging and opens up more questions.
They include a football crowd, bubbles, two other crowds, a shoal of fish and a herd of wilderbeast.
In all, lots of examples to practice with & food for lively discussion and critical thinking using basic math and could be taken further into investigating bias in crowd counting.
Note:
All the documents are printable.

This math resource is designed for pupils to practice placing the decimal point when multiplying two decimal numbers and is good preparation for the work of âMultiplying Decimals with the Standard Algorithm.â
You will have 5 levels of Worksheets for pupils to practice whatever method you have taught them with the questions set out horizontally AND vertically.
In the first 4 sets of worksheets, the questions are presented in such a way that pupils can see the progression from the multiplier being a whole number, then 10ths, then 100ths. The idea behind this is that at the same time learning the method for placing the decimal point they get the opportunity to see any patterns that might emerge in the numbers produced.
Set 1 - Multiplicand - Units
5 x 3
5 x 0.3
5 x 0.03
Set 2 - Multiplicand - Tens
20 x 6

Year 6 programme of study: Ratio and proportion:
Solve problems involving the relative sizes of two quantities where missing values can be found by using integer multiplication and division facts
This resource introduces the concept of ratio, starting with sharing a given quantity using the visual support of tape diagrams (also called the bar model), then moving on to word based problems.
Worksheets with visual support
Tape diagrams (or bar models) allow students to see the relationships between quantities in a simple graphical format. This visual aid helps students understand the structure of the problem and the relationships between the parts to be shared and how the relationships between quantities change when the ratio changes. They also help to develop a systematic approach to solving ratio problems.
Worksheet Sets 1 to 3
The initial quantity and the ratio for sharing are given. Students must find the value of one unit of sharing, color in the tape diagram accordingly, then find the size of each sharedpart of the original quantity.
You have a choice of 3 ranges of numbers:
Level 1: Under 100
Level 2: to 1000 in multiples of 10
Level 3: to 1000
This gives you the choice of starting with small numbers and focusing on the ratio calculations, then later use the worksheets with larger numbers to bring in extra practice with the 4 operations.
Worksheet Sets 4 to 6
A further set of challenging Worksheets with the visual aid contain questions giving the ratio & one of the final answers with the aim to find the initial quantity. As with Worksheets Sets 1-3 you have a choice of 3 ranges of numbers to work with.
Worksheet Sets 7 to 9
These have a mix of the formats from Sets 1 to 3 and 4 to 6, with the 3 ranges of numbers, and the additional task of determining the width of the tape diagrams before coloring them in according to the ratio of the parts.
Word Problems on Ratio Worksheet Sets
The two Sets contain a mix of questions including sharing a given quantity; given a share and the ratio, find the original quantity etc as outlined above, (but now without the visual support), plus finding the ratio of two quantities in their simplest form (equivalence of ratios). The quantities in Set 1 are 1 & 2-Digit numbers, whilst in Set 2 range quantities are 2 & 3-Digit numbers.
How many worksheets are there in total ?
Virtually unlimited ⌠There are 8 Sets, BUT, at the click of a button numbers are randomised, so the questions change which allows you to create new worksheets at the any level for extra practice or revision throughout the year or even give groups of pupils within your class different sets of questions.
Answers are automatically generated every time.

Year 4 programme of study- Measurement-
measure and calculate the perimeter of a rectilinear figure (including squares) in centimetres and metres
find the area of rectilinear shapes by counting squares
This math resource could also be called finding the area and perimeter of irregular shapes, polygons or compound rectangles. All the figures are composed of 2 or 3 non-overlapping rectangles. This is a natural follow on from the worksheets of Area and Perimeter of Rectangles
In each shape there will be one or more side that is unknown and students will have to find its value, either by counting in the case where the figures are on a grid, or calculating where lengths are given, in order to complete the area or perimeter calculation.
To find the area, students must first break down the shape into rectangles, and by either counting squares, using the formula for area or perimeter of a rectangle, get to the final answer.
There are 6 Sets of Differentiated Worksheets
Sets 1 to 4 are made up of 2 non-overlapping rectangles
Set 1: Introduction - Find the total area of the shapes shown on a grid, each shape divided into 2 rectangles.
Set 2: Find the area and perimeter of the shapes shown on a grid. Students must now divide the shape into 2 rectangles and add them to find the area.
Set 3: Find the area of rectangles with a rectangular space inside shown on a grid - subtract one from the other to find the shaded area. These are not overlapping rectangles but show a situation where instead of adding , areas must now be subtracted.
Set 4: Find the area and perimeter. No grid. Measurements are given with one or two of them missing.
Sets 5 & 6 are made up of 3 non-overlapping rectangles
Set 5: Find the area and perimeter of the shapes shown on a grid. Students must now divide the shape into 3 rectangles and add them to find the total area.
Set 6: Find the area and perimeter. No grid. Measurements are given with one or two of them missing.
Students must now divide the shape into 3 rectangles and add them to find the total area.
