Data Transmission -serial + parallel data / parity bits + blocks -GCSE Computer Science- Full Lesson

(2)
This is a full lesson on data transmission with all resources / activities. I use this for a double lesson of around 1 hour and 50 minutes and it provides a thorough understanding of simplex / duplex transmission and then goes on to look at serial / parallel transmission before finishing with odd and even parity bits and then parity blocks. The Learning Objectives are: Understand what is meant by transmission of data Know the difference between serial and parallel data transmission understand of the reasons for choosing serial or parallel data transmission Know why it is necessary to check for errors Understand how parity works to identify if an error has occurred / locate errors Resources included: Parallel Ports Handout Serial Port Handout Lesson Presentation Parity demonstration Parity Puzzle Plenary The aim of all my resources is to provide lessons / activities of good quality that will add value to your lessons / schemes of work. All activities and resources have been used in class and any errors will be fixed and resources updated as soon as I am aware of any errors. I have priced my resources at what I consider to be a reasonable cost based upon the amount of effort and work I have put into them but all comments and suggestions are very welcome and will be used to improve future resources. If you have an idea for a topic / resource that you would like to see, feel free to leave a comment. Two versions - easier and difficult for a Tarsia puzzle to test if students can do conversions between Decimal / Binary / Hexadecimal. These puzzles are quite challenging but are great for revision You will need the free software from mmlsoft to use this resource.
