Smash the KS2 Maths Arithmetic Paper by targeting your weaknesses! Aim to get 40 out of 40 on the arithmetic paper. There are 42 Arithmetic Ninja Boosters grouped into 10 topic areas each containing 21 questions. There is a YouTube video link button on each booster too, linking to a video showing students how to do 5 of the questions for that booster to get them started. Brighten up SATs revision with this great fun alternative to past papers! This Swash-buckling board game involves pupils moving around the board and answering past SATs questions in order to win treasure.
This pack includes the board, the rules and 32 SATs question cards with answers (you could also add your own cards by using SATs papers in the future). The last page also invites pupils to invent their own game for the students to revise with the following year (but of course they must provide answers to the questions they set!)
To play you will need to cut up the question cards (I suggest laminating them for future use) and print the board in colour for each team. I usually let the rest of the team decide if the question has been answered correctly (that way they all have to work it out!) but there is an answer sheet provided for checking if they are not sure.
You will also need counters, dice and mini whiteboards.

This festive estimation game is fun for all ages!
Split your class into 5 teams and display the question and picture on the interactive whiteboard. Play the countdown timer and the teams will have 30 seconds to discuss their best estimate for that question.
Then take each teams' estimate and reveal the answer. Closest team gets three points, second closest two points and third closest gets one point. Other teams get nothing!

Real-life contextual Maths Lesson(s) on comparing phone tariffs by forming expressions for the costs and substituting - then an activity comparing different tariffs. For further investigation you could extend this into spreadsheets and make it into a project- useful for KS3/KS4 building functional money skills.

Cross-curricular lesson(s) on distance- time graphs with a Hunger games theme. Links together Maths, English, Physics and possibly P.E. (could also link in with archery)
Students begin to Interpret and construct distance-time graphs, looking at the stories that could be represented by parts of the graph and what type of movement the graphs could describe.
This also includes a practical activity where students move around and graph their movements and opportunities for extended writing in which they describe the story that could be shown by a graph in more detail. This would be great for a break out week / end of term activity.
