If you’re looking for a fun way to decorate your class for Lunar New Year while also having your students learn about the traditions of Lunar New Year, then this reading text and lucky red tassel weaving craft will be just what you’re after. The informational text explains what Lunar New Year is and how it is celebrated, and comes with comprehension questions. The text is editable (using Century Gothic font) so you can adapt this if you need to. With the craft, children weave a lucky red tassel which can be hung around the classroom. There is an easier version for younger children (three columns), and a harder version for older children (five columns and thinner strips). Plus, you can choose from a 2D easier tassel, or 3D rolled tassel. The craft comes with a template for the strips and visual step-by-step instructions. Simply print the craft on red paper for the main pieces, and yellow for the trim on the tassel. I hope your children have fun learning and decorating their class. Hieroglyphics are so much fun to learn about. In this resource pack, there are three activities for students to write and read hieroglyphics. Activity One (two options): Write the hieroglyphics for the alphabet in English (excluding letters that have no equivalent, such as “C” and “E”) on their own paper or on the two options given. Trace over the hieroglyphics. Activity Two: Find hieroglyphics in three lines from a primary source. Find the cartouche and symbols inside it. Identify where to start reading. Identify a wheat symbol. Activity Three: Apply what they’ve learned by writing their name in hieroglyphics. Decode hieroglyphics to find four inventions.
