5 Topics to Revise - Area & Perimeter

(9)
5 Topics to Revise for Key Stage 2 SATs Since the White Rose Maths Hub began creating questions for Diagnostic Questions just a few months ago, there have been 337,221 answers given by primary school students all over the country. Perhaps more importantly, 116,437 of these answers have been incorrect. So, with SATs on the horizon, we thought it would be a perfect time to reflect on five areas of mathematics that have proved particularly troubling to Key Stage 2 students. The five key areas are: - Area and perimeter - Angles - Equivalent fractions and fractions of an amount - Factors and multiples - Percentages For each of these areas we have provided some supporting resources that you could use with your classes to help overcome these difficulties, together with a mini 5 question quiz you could give your students to see if their misconceptions have been resolved. We really hope you find this useful. Craig and the White Rose Maths Hub team

Place Value - 4 digit numbers

(17)
This worksheet checks pupils understanding of 4 digit numbers. It is designed to be used more at the end of a sequence of work on place value (4 digit numbers). Pupils should be encouraged to use place value cards and counters to help them understand, reason and explain what they are doing. The questions start quite fluency based testing students understanding of place value in numbers. They then have to find 10, 100 and 1000 more than given numbers. They then have to order numbers and identify values on a number line.
Division Investigation

Division Investigation

(15)
A simple division investigation that asks pupils to show what happens when you divide. Pupils make whole squares to represent dividing by 4. You will need to make the link to the calculation explicit. Pupils will hopefully be able to see from the investigation what it means to make the whole and what the remain represents. Pupils can then start to reason why the remainder can never big bigger than what you are dividing by. They also look for a pattern in the remainder too.
