Earth Day, celebrated annually on April 22nd, is a rapidly growing global event where people around the world reflect on their impact on the environment. This resource provides a brief history of Earth Day and encourages children to engage in discussion, ask questions, and share ideas. The included activities offer children the opportunity to make a small or large pledge or promise to help protect and care for the planet.

First Day Back activity and SNB
This resource begins with a simple talk activity to encourage children to speak with each other and the teacher about some of their favourite things. It also includes a worksheet that helps the teacher get to know each pupil better. The completed worksheets are great for classroom displays and are especially nice to review at the end of the year to reflect on how things have changed—because change is good!

This lesson gives the children chance to think scientifically about what light is. It also teaches that the opposite of light is darkness, which leads nicely into the next lesson which is about reflection (some objects reflect light rather than being a light source).
It gives them opportunity to discuss in pairs, groups or as a class to develop ideas as the lesson progresses.
Timed activities help to engage, excite and challenge the children. The main learning activity is differentiated 3 ways and the pictures can be used or not.
