Having already learnt that the Great Fire started on Pudding Lane in lesson 2, children will know learn what happened during the Fire. This includes the Mayor going back to sleep as he thought that the Fire was small as well as people escaping into the River Thames. A KS1 history lesson which teaches children about the Great Fire of London and how it started. Within this lesson children will learn how the Great Fire started on Pudding Lane in Thomas Farriner’s bakery. This lesson will ask the children to act as historical detectives and work out the clues as to why they think the bakery was the cause of the fire. Children will link their prior knowledge of London, the fact it was overcrowded and buildings were made out of wood, to draw conclusions to the start of the fire. Adding to a number can be a difficult skill for the children to master so this resource is differentiated to meet all the children’s needs.
