A fully resourced 4-week narrative writing unit for Upper KS2, built around the theme of Lost and Found and framed by natural disasters. Using a structured, immersive writing approach, pupils develop key skills such as suspense writing, figurative language, dialogue, and punctuation for effect. Perfect for Year 5 or 6.
This unit follows a clear progression from imitation and innovation to independent invention and publication. Children work with a high-quality model text (Stranded in the Flood) before writing their own version (Lost in the Lava) and then creating an independent story using the same structure.
