Here are 5 worksheets for finding all possibilities problem solving lessons. I could not categorise this resource on here properly as 'Using and Applying' or 'Problem Solving' are not on the TES system. Most of these resources are differentiated 2 ways but I found it worked best to do them in partners and discuss as class etc. It's good to do those over a few weeks as some are similar and reinforce learning points such as using a system/logical way of working eg always starting with same colour... Tower building challenge: Use 4 differently coloured blocks - in which order can you arrange the blocks? How many ways are there? Notebook File attached. Ice Cream challenge: Use 4 different ice cream flavours - in which order can you arrange them on the cone? How many ways are there? (A 3 scoop version available too) Design a flag challenge: Use 3 or 4 different colours- in which order can you arrange them on flags? How many ways are there? Mini beast hunt: 3 different kinds of minibeasts were found, 10 or 20 altogether. What are the different options? Chinese New Year Race Challenge: 3 (or 4) more animals turn up for the race of the zodiac. They missed it and have their own race. In which order could they finish?

This is a comprehension to use in English to jazz up your lessons when approaching Christmas. I would recommend it for (a high) year 2 and higher. It is based on the song 'I Wish It Could Be Christmas Every Day' by Wizzard which you can find here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kx4Cyhf_neU There are four differentiated sheets with the lyrics of the songs and questions underneath. -Extended level: Retrieval and higher order thinking questions (Why, What does it mean..., Which word tells you that...) - Core: Focused more on simple retrieval from the text. - Lower Core/Nurture: Simple retrieval from the text but scaffolded multiple choice for half of the questions. - Nurture, SEN, EAL: Using the song and text children write words to match picture (vocab), find adjectives used to describe things and draw scenes from the song/label them.

I have gone through previous SATs papers and have looked at some questions that I think my class would find hard. I then rewrote the questions using different numbers. See what you think - we used them as mental oral starters and also plenary questions in our revision...

Great ice-breaker for the first day of teaching to get to know the children, help them to get to know each other and most importantly, help them get to know the teacher! It contains picture clues for ESL children. Children ask around in class and find someone who likes something that is pictured. If they find someone they put his/her name down on the grid. First one to have 4 in a row wins.

I made this resource for my year 2 class after teaching the fractions of shapes and to move them on using this model to find fractions of numbers. There are differentiated worksheets. This is how we did it: 1. Colour in the fraction that you have to find on the circle eg 1/2. 2. Look at the number you have to share (eg 6) and share it into the fraction shown (on the circle share 6 between the two halves). 3. Count how many each fraction has. 4. Check the amount is equal. This is an activity which I would suggest to use in KS1 as a first week activity when coming back to school in September. SHEET ONE There are four empty polaroids for children to draw in and lines beside them to describe their holiday/write a sentence. It is differentiated by scaffolding and outcome. Some children are more able to write about what happened without any guidance whereas others might need more structure eg first polaroid is 'who I saw', second polaroid is about 'games I played'... etc and soe others might just need to draw/label/talk about their holidays so there are different sheets for different groups. It works best copied and blown up to A3. SHEET TWO. Same as sheet one except for this time round all polaroids are selfies - phone/iPad outline. It is also a nice thing to display in your classroom in those first few weeks when topics have not yet started etc. Includes 2 differentiated worksheets plus two screenshots for you to see what sheets look like. Apostrophes for Contraction: Differentiated 3 ways - Top group has to find words where apostrophes have to be added and re-write sentences using apostrophes in the correct places. Middle Group has to change underlined words to words with apostrophes. Bottom group has to match contradicted form to the two words it is made of and work on a few sentences as challenge. Comprehension. Differentiated 4 ways - Higher order thinking questions. To go with a printout of the story that YOU have e.g. book, twinkle etc. Text not included just questions. Retrieval questions Multiple choice questions Colouring in Cinderella comprehension with challenge question and sentence to unscramble. For the top two, part of the sentence is in bold which they have to use as sentence starter for their answer to encourage them to answer in full sentences. VERY BASIC SLIDE ON NOTEBOOK TO INTRODUCE Speech/Thought bubble activity Children work in mixed ability on these four scenarios again to fill in thought and speech bubbles. Could be acted out in partners too. Not differentiated. Up-leveling Short activity - improving 6 sentences. Differentiated by outcome - children follow the steps to the step they can get to. Correcting mistakes Children proofread sentences where is/are and him/her are not correct and edit them. For children who cannot access this there is a second activity about unscrambling sentences about Cinderella. Sequencing Pictures Activity Not differentiated. Children can cut and stick pictures in the correct order and label/annotate/write sentences.Great for EAL. Grammatically correct sentences. This activity is based on a Pie Corbett game. You start with challenge 1 and make a sentence with just one word. Then move on to challenge 2 and add a second word, so now you have to use both words in a sentence. Then you add a third, non-related word and children have to come up with a grammatically correct sentence and use their imagination to add write a new sentence this time using all three words. Identifying speech and adding speech marks. In a small group or in partners children read following Cinderella text. They work out together which bits are spoken by the characters, then underline what is spoken. Next they re-write in their book and put the spoken sentence which they underlined inside speech marks “_____”.

This could be used for research (individually or whole class) when making posters/leaflets etc. A 4 pages long comprehension based on the fact sheet. The text is on the top half of the sheet and questions are below for children to answer. It is differentiated in a higher and a lower comprehension - one with mostly retrieval and one with retrieval and some inference questions. A geography worksheet for mapping countries in Europe that take part. Children can choose 12 countries, find them on the map and make a key. If you wanted to differentiate it, you could print it out twice and fill in the key for one already. I would recommend copying the map on A3 paper to make it easier for children. Maths sheet on bar charts: Children read the table of who was in the final in the past and what their results were and make a bar chart of how many goals were scored in each final throughout the years and answer some challenge questions about it. Differentiated - one is more scaffolded and the bar chart has been prepared, the other needs children to label their own bar chart (differentiated in bar charts going up in 1s, 2s, 5s). There is also another sheet where children choose 5 countries and represent in a bar chart how many times each country has participated in the final. Here are 6 differentiated worksheets (2 pages each) that I made for my class to relate maths learning to the UEFA Euro 24 in France. On each sheet, the letters of the alphabet are printed at the top and each letter has a value. Then there are pictures of important players and children then have to work out the total of the names of the footballers. There are three sheets designed for applying mental strategies to work out name scores: -WALT add using mental strategies: Adding single-digit numbers using basic number bonds. WALT add using mental strategies: Adding several multiples of 10. WALT add using mental strategies: Adding several multiples of 100. There are three more differentiated sheets, where children can apply the column method( ie on a mini whiteboard) for addition to work out the score of each name: WALT add several two-digit numbers (each individual number below 30). This includes: 1. A five pages long information sheet with some facts about the Olympic and Paralympic Games including their mascots. This could be used for research (individually or whole class) when making posters/leaflets etc or as introduction for the comprehension. 2. An 11 pages long comprehension based on the fact sheet. The text is on the top half of the sheet and questions are below for children to answer. This can be split up into two different comprehension activities if 11 pages is too much. It is differentiated in a higher and a lower comprehension - one with mostly retrieval and one with reasoning and some inference questions. There is also a reading comprehension for lower ability children or children with EAL with very basic facts and instructions to draw and some early writing. 3. A starter activity to get them thinking about question words and what each means. Also matching questions to answers.

This is a great resource for children to use for maths when we celebrate the King’s Coronation. All you need to do is add the prices depending on your year group’s needs (and differentiate it for different groups) and then children work on word problems (mostly addition and multiplication) about party planning with Coronation Merchandise… There are also two group tasks centred around what food and drinks to serve if you would like a more open ended activity; one where children decide what to buy for how many people and find the total and one activity where children plan on a budget you give them and have to figure out what they can get for the amount they have. Again, just add the prices to make it appropriate for the age group you teach. I hope that works - feedback very welcome, have already acted upon feedback and improved the resource. I also included a powerpoint about Buckingham Palace - interior and exterior - to show children what it looks like and to get an idea of HRH’s life. The powerpoint is not maths based, however, it gives you an idea of what the rooms look like, what the staff at the Palace do when they put on a meal and has some of the worksheet at the end for introducing the children to party planning etc.

I always have a vote on the last day of term to elect the hardest worker, kindest person, funniest person and more... and each child is allowed to vote for who they think the award should go to and they can write down the 3 people that fit best into each category. They love it! I print/write the class name and date on there, sign it, laminate the certificates and set them up at the front of the classroom when they come in on their last day. I also buy the cheap plastic trophies from Sainsbury's, and stick the attached little labels on them before they go out. I also make a year book with them a week before we break up, which I get them to fill in and then copy for the whole class. It's a lot of fun and a nice keepsake for them and their parents. Enjoy!
