A descriptive writing lesson looking at how to use SOAPAMS in order to describe an image. Has plenty of extension tasks, peer assessment opportunities, exemplars, examples of how to vary sentence openings and opportunities to improve vocabulary.

An excellent resource for relecting on the exam and preparing any upcoming GCSE students.

A lesson that studies in depth the character of Gerald Croft and questions whether he is a character to sympathise with in the end, or one that is just a womaniser. The students in this lesson will be able to develop their language and structure skills using very guided annotations and prompts on the board for language and structure. They will also be able to write good responses to the language and structure questions using sentence starters and model responses from the lesson.**

A resource looking at rhetorical devices used in speeches and looking in detail at Pathos, Logos and Ethos as a means of appealing to an audience. Contains speech writing task, Michelle Obama speech and video, model speech opening and opportunity for peer assessment. Works excellent for teaching AQA Language Paper 2 speech writing and/or preparing for the spoken language endorsement.

AQA English Language Paper 2 Walking Talking Mock through questions 1-4 with an additional question 5 task as homework. Extracts provided. Writing frames provided and exemplar responses given. Each question discussed in great detail, particularly when it comes to analysis of quotes - plenty of in-depth analysis included in PPT for students to see. Could easily be split into two separate sessions.

A detailed 24 slide resource using an extract from The Bourne Identity going through AQA English Language Paper 1 questions 2,4&5. Has exemplars of quotes annotated to provide analysis, writing frames for exam style answers and peer assessment opportunities with mark schemes included. Could be split into multiple sessions depending on class. Has a short exemplar descriptive writing piece and task at the end using SOAPAMS techniques and an image - very typical of AQA Language Paper 1. Students can use this as a starting point to then write the remainder of the answer.

A set of 3 lessons in one which looks at the layout and exemplars of Q1,2,3&4 with a few additional slides for prompting responses for Q5 - but more could be added to adapt this. Full mark schemes, extract, exemplar answers and writing frames included!

A resource looking at describing an image from the Trump Capitol protests. The lesson contains appropriate models, details on the drop-shift-zoom method, watching a news report to develop some literary techniques for our writing and use of colour imagery. Mostly suited to AQA English Language Paper 1 Section B, but definitely could be used universally for any descriptive writing question.

A double lesson looking at Q1,2&3 of the AQA English Language Paper 1 using an extract from Northanger abbey. Students will be prompted with guided annotations on the lesson and have sentence starters/model responses in order to write a good response for the language and structure questions. Video’s to engage interest in the extract are included.

Designed for Year 11 students taking the AQA Language GCSE. Uses an extract from Mary Shelley’s* Frankenstein* and looks at interpreting explicit information and ideas, language analysis and structure analysis. Includes model paragraph, sentence starters and writing frames.

The students will be prompted to annotate the extract and work in groups using guided annotations on the lesson and will be able to write good responses to questions 2&3 for language and structure using the sentence starters and model responses provided on the lesson.

Lesson and full mark exemplar included. Lesson includes focus on what writing to explain means, what AO5 linguistic devices should be used when writing, how to plan a response and structure ideas, alongside a full mark exemplar response that can be printed and annotated alongside students in order to show them how to embed particular devices into their writing. AQA specific but could be used as just a general article writing lesson out of context.
