The Spanish Golden Age - Part 1 / Santa Teresa de Jesús

This resources are a combination of a worksheet that complements the power point. If you intend to use it for independent work, students who have access to a computer could complete it without the need for a power point. The power point serves as a starting point to talk about the Spanish Golden Age, its importance, amongst other aspects. Then there are some videos and photos to learn a bit more about Santa Teresa de Jesús. Finally, there is one poem and the chance for students to interpret it / analyse it.

The Spanish Golden Age - Part 4 / Francisco de Quevedo

This resources are linked to “Part 1 / Santa Teresa de Jesús” and “Part 2 / Miguel de Cervantes” and “Part 3/ Lope de Vega” but can also be used independently. The power point could be used to support the worksheet in case the teacher wants to lead the session. However, if the teacher wants the students to complete this as part of independent work, the students will need access to a computer in order to complete the worksheets. This is the last part to give the students a general idea of the Spanish Golden Age, therefore this powerpoint and worksheet explores the rivalry between Quevedo and Góngora, as well as the two different ways they had to conceive poetry. The video provided is full of slang an cultural references, so I would encourage the teacher to explain the contents of the video before playing it, unless the student is familiar with it. Finally, the students will be able to see a very satiric poem written by Quevedo. These resources could be used to help further the knowledge of A-Level students.

The adapted text can be found for free online, I have only added it to make it easier to give to the students with some new annotated translations.

If you are teaching Friendship and relationships in Spanish and you want to help your students with it this might be a good idea in order to work most of the skills: reading, writing & translating. There are different levels of difficulty. Instructions: Decide which level of difficulty you want to give to each student. Ask them to fold the paper so they can only see the Spanish version. Give them some time to read it. Then they have to fold the last part so they can only see the Spanish version and the help given to translate it in the second box. Finally they fold the first part so they can not see the original version and they try to translate it from English to Spanish I hope it’s useful!
