A quick activity suitable for GCSE biology students to help to familiarise them with new keywords within the homeostasis and response topic.
I suggest that firstly students match the images to the keywords; stimulus, receptor, effector and response. Then students match the images to a full scenario e.g. A bright light is detected; the receptor cells in the eye pick up this stimulus, the effector muscles of the iris bring about the response of the pupil constricting.
Activity is suitable for a starter task or plenary task.
Note - the activity comes with the images and descriptions in order and will need cutting prior to handing out to students.
there are two versions of the activity one is a jigsaw puzzle, and one with just images and descriptions.

This excellent resource bundle is perfect for revision ahead of an end of topic test. Students all take a card and ask each other a question out loud, the answer is printed on another card. The student with the correct answer then reads their question until all cards have been answered. This should form a complete loop.
This is provides a great opportunity for students to develop their scientific knowledge of a particular topic, tier 3 vocabulary, and active listening skills.
I recommend printing and laminating a copy of the cards and storing in an envelope for repeated use. I also recommend printing a second copy of the loop game which is for your use as a teacher (this means you can anticipate what answer is coming next, give any help as needed or help with the pronunciation of keywords).
Topics included in this bundle are:
Cell biology
Bioenergetics
Ecology
Homeostasis and response
Infection and response
Inheritance, variation and evolution
Organisation
Biology required practicals.
All loop games come as editable word documents so that you can modify the questions, font etc to suit the learners in your classroom.
