In my shop you will find Sociology and Tutor time resources aimed at Secondary and Sixth Form students. I follow the new Eduqas exam board, so most Sociology resources available in my shop are based on this specification. Eduqas course content is similar to other exam boards and therefore transferable. This Power-point concerns the topic 'Key Concepts and Processes of Cultural Transmission' , with a focus on ethnicity and the development of ethnic identities. The lesson follows the Eduqas specification and examines how Family, Education, Peer groups and Media influence and construct ethnic identities. There are two exam 4 mark exam questions embedded within the slides for students to try. Students have exam advice, sentence starters and model answers to help them write and develop their own answer. You will need mini wipe boards and board pens. Additionally students will need coloured pens to update their progress mind map check. You will find extra help, hints, links to useful websites in the notes that you may wish to use in your lesson.

The aim of this lesson is to introduce the concept of longitudinal studies and consider the strengths and weaknesses. This resource will take up a whole lesson. The aim is to introduce students to essay technique using the PEEL model and AO skills. It's an easy to use step by step guide. By the end of the session, students should have a deeper understanding of the exam criteria and feel more confident structuring and independently writing a 15 mark answer. There is a PDF and word document attached. The word document is there for you to edit as you wish. You may prefer to use a different exam question to the one suggested. There is also a list of sample exam questions to consider and use in your lessons. One list is a word document. This is for you to add to the list as you wish.

This Power Point is a bit of fun and a break from our everyday curriculum. This resource can be used with lower year groups as a marketing tool, or as part of Sociology club, or with GCSE year 9 groups. The slides aim to encourage students to think about the representation of gender, sexuality, ethnicity and the body in relation to Halloween. Additionally, there are a few slides which prompt students to focus on the agencies of socialisation and their role in teaching norms and values surrounding Halloween. The Power Point is not designed to be taught in one lesson. Instead, you can pick and select the specific areas you would like to teach and deliver (this includes gender, sexuality, race, ethnicity or body and mental health). Due to this, the lesson objectives are quite vague and generic. You may wish to change these to suit your requirements. There are tasks embedded within the slides with supporting notes. There are progress check slides and visual and discussion based activities. Content and activities are summarised below: Agencies of Socialisation: Discussion concerning the 'deviant' norms and values encouraged within AOS during Halloween. Interactive notebook activity. See Word Doc. Gender activity: Silly to 'sexy'. Female identity and the Halloween costumes. Students create age appropriate costumes aimed at an 8 year old. Sexuality: Discussion based on 'heteronormativity'. Race and ethnicity: Discussion based on racist Halloween costumes. Followed by a literacy based activity where students write a letter of complaint to a Costume Company. Body and mental health: Students focus on a contemporary debate and create a promotional campaign. There are many more topics we can explore as Sociologists, but this resource is a nice little starting point, encouraging higher thinking skills and the development of sociological awareness. AO2 skills are tested throughout. Have fun with it.

This resource covers 4 lessons. You can cut this down by skipping the documentary on ‘Corruption and Bribery’. The lessons aim to encourage students to create an interactive notebook which represents 10 examples of white collar crime. You will need colouring pens, scissors, glue and the interactive doors attached. The lesson includes a small mark exam question, clips, progress checks and activities. Please see the notes for progress check questions and answers. Additional information and links to websites and clips can also be found in the notes. My students thoroughly enjoyed these lessons, and WCC is their strongest area because of it.

This is a handy 20 page revision activity booklet for students to complete at home or during lesson. The booklet aims to recap module 1 (Key Concepts) with reference to exam questions, a RAG checklist and an personal AFL log to track exam progress. Additionally, there is an exam help sheet. This lists several exam questions (all have been created after researching past papers with application to the new spec) with a break down of AO1 and AO2 skills, sentence starters and tips on how to answer a question. This resource is aimed at Eduqas, but can be tweaked and adapted to fit other exam boards. With regards to the booklet, I printed A5 copies for my students to take home. I recommend printing smaller copies to save on printing budgets, and students seem to prefer them.

This lesson can take between 1 and 3 sessions. It is aimed at GCSE Eduqas Sociology students but can be used with other exam boards too. This lesson will introduce students to the idea of content analysis and students will create their own analysis. Students will be given a hypothesis to prove or disprove on slide 5. Students will then watch two clips from the opening scenes of Disney’s 1991 Beauty and Beast cartoon and the 2017 movie. After calculating and reviewing their results, students will then discuss the strengths and weaknesses to this method using their own experiences. Always read the notes at the bottom of the slides. Links, clips and answers can be found there.

This resource is specific to the Eduqas A Level Sociology exam specification. The worksheet includes a guide on how to answer 5 mark exam questions with sentence starters. There are two activities for students to complete independently and or with a partner. You will find 4 answers to a 5 mark exam question and students are expected to grade each written response. Students must also write their own answer to the exam question. On the final page you will find some teacher guidance to marking the model answers.

As Eduqas teachers are aware, it's pretty difficult to cover and teach all areas of life during lesson time. Last year, I covered the main areas of life (Education and Work) and encouraged students to research the other areas independently. The Power Point attached instructs and encourages students to research alternative areas of life using resources available to them. You can do this in lesson time, but I would recommend setting this as homework. My students were given interactive templates to help them on their way. See attached.

This resource is aimed at the GCSE Eduqas course. Lesson 1: Questionnaire Questioning This lesson focuses on closed and open-ended questions. Lesson 2: Questionnaire Design This lesson aims to encourage students to design their own questionnaire with little guidance. Students are expected to distribute the questionnaire, analyse results and create their own conclusion. Students will produce poor questionnaires and will learn from participant feedback. This is a great lesson to work independently and to reflect on skills. Lesson 3: Evaluating Questionnaires Students are encouraged to look at the strengths and weaknesses of questionnaires with reference to their own study from lesson 2, and by analysing the ‘bad questionnaire’ resource. This resource is a PowerPoint with several interactive tasks embedded within the slides. The lesson is aimed at year 9 GCSE Sociology students with a focus on ‘culture’ and ‘norms’. The lesson was made with the Eduqas exam board in mind, however it does fit other GCSE course- not slide 13 (Eduqas exam questions). For this lesson, you will need scissors, glue, dictionaries, mini wipe-boards and pens. For the plenary you may prefer to use buzzers if you have them. This will add a little competition to the end of your lesson- which is always good fun! You may wish to print off slide 7 for students to stick in their exercise books. On slide 9, there is an activity that involves watching a clip from Idiot Abroad (Season 1, Episode 4 Mexico). There is a link to an uncensored clip (a few swear words) to show Easter Sunday Fireworks in Mexico. Any episode of Idiot Abroad can be used to complete the task on slide 9. Activities are differentiated with ‘You must, You should and You could’. Slide 13 has sample multiple choice exam questions (like section one on the Eduqas paper).

The lesson is engaging and encourages students to reflect on their own education and the purpose of the subjects they study.
