Building Fraction Models Task Cards
These hands on fraction activities are the perfect way to start learning about modeling fractions. Although many children can correctly identify a fraction when it is shown to them, they have trouble representing specific fractions on their own. Use these math task cards to teach students how to model and develop a deeper understanding of fractions. I have found this activity extremely useful in my math intervention classes. The cards ask students to use 1, 2, or 3 primary colors. You can use any primary-colored objects such as LEGO, pattern blocks, Unifix cubes, etc. Differentiate by limiting the number of blocks students are given or requiring them to use equivalent fractions. Supports skills from CCSS 3.NF.A.1, TEKS 3.3.A, VA SOL 3.2b, and KS2 Year 3.
This Resource Includes
• 40 unique task cards in both color and print-friendly versions
Materials Needed
• Primary color (red, yellow, blue, green) objects
