Fun with frogs and data handling at KS1. The lesson starts with children looking at the colour poster of 18 frogs all wearing different hats. Children observe carefully looking at the frogs eye colour and types of head wear. Sheet 2 asks children to count and record e.g. number of frogs with brown eyes/party hats/work hats. There are 5 questions to answer. Sheet 3 is for children to draw a hat on each of the frogs and label them. Sheet 4 shows frogs in different positions or activities. Children colour the matching frogs to make them the same. Sheet 5 shows 2 writing frames for children to write about frogs or their findings of the data handling activities.

Money from 5p to £3 A fun shopping activity where children work out how much each item costs from its position on the grid and the position of the bags with money tags. There is a sheet for children to record the cost of each item and a sheet for them to record the grid reference of the items. There is also a black and white grid with the shopping items on for children to colour in. Extend by asking differentiated questions such as: How much would it cost for a duck and an apple? Susan purchased 1a and 4d - what did she buy and how much did it cost her?

A 2D shape activity using hexagons. There are colour and black and white versions included here. The 4 types of sheets show one hexagon, two hexagons joined, three hexagons and a completed pattern on the final sheet. Children can cut out the 2D hexagons and copy or make their own tessellating patterns.

A power point presentation for use when teaching children the time. This one shows o’clock, but can be altered by turning the clock hands for any times you want. The question and answer is animated and these appear on a click of the key or use of a switch: ‘Can you tell me the time please?’ ‘It’s three o’clock’. The final page is a clock template for children to make their own. Print these on card and laminate. Add split pins for the hands. Children can then make the times indicated on the PPT.

A pack of resources for teachers working on Time or teaching the months of the year. The activities can be used as stand alone lessons or a unit of work. There is a lesson plan with objectives, resources and activity ideas. Resources include a collection of 12 colour circular pictures denoting each month of the year. Children can cut these out and sequence them and paste onto the blank template. There is a worksheet for each month of the year which shows the monthly symbol and calendar. Children are asked how many days there are in each month, what day each month begins on and to add any stars for special days. Children write in all the days for each month. The circular colour months can be enlarged to make useful flashcards.

A counting game where children count the numbers on each tile and add them together. This works well as a mental maths starter encouraging ‘maths talk’. Children could work against the clock for added interest and motivation. Another activity idea is for children to find matching tiles of ‘real’ dominoes and place them onto the sheets. Children can learn how to play dominoes or / and cut out and match the tiles. There are 19 pages with 2 dominoes on each. There is a template included at the end for you to make more of your own.

A fun shape activity for Early Years or KS1 children linked to 2D Shape. There is a colour example of 6 shape monsters. Children can practice drawing monsters using the 6 shape template or the individual shapes which are one to a page. Extend the activity by making the monsters using different media such as paint, fabric, wallpaper or collage materials.
