This is my own personal statement for the position of Assistant Headteacher for Teaching, Learning and Curriculum - a job which I got. Being able to download someone else’s personal statement while writing mine, would have been a huge help. Therefore, I thought offering mine, would give practitioners an option to view one before they start writing their own and thus having new ideas and a clear structure. Obviously, every personal statement should be tailored to the person specification but it is easy to use ideas from this personal statement and shuffle them around accordingly. I have removed specific names from the personal statement and instead typed, XXX.

Ramadan spans a month and is celebrated by a huge number of Muslims worldwide. Educate your pupils with this informative assembly, which goes through why Ramadan is observed, how it is observed and how at Eid Ul Fitr, it is celebrated. There is a link to a lovely story on Youtube and a quiz to ensure pupils were listening! The presentation can also be easily adapted for a lesson on Ramadan. Good mental well-being has become harder to maintain as life becomes increasingly hectic. That's why it must be our priority to help pupils to understand their own mental well-being and know how to improve it. This great presentation is full of ideas, starters, suggested activities and examples aimed at supporting pupils to improve and maintain a healthy mental well-being. Activities range from thinking about what makes them happy to designing their own happy place to setting goals to thinking about how helping others can lead to being a happier person. The activities are suitable to support a 10 week programme on mental well-being, which should become a priority in every curriculum. Any questions, please just ask.

A supporting / personal statement (containing blood, sweat and tears!) for the post of Headteacher. This supporting statement, of over 3000 words, ensured that I was shortlisted. I was subsequently appointed as Headteacher in a 2-form state primary. I have removed specific names and replaced with XXX. There is copy write on the document. Please do not simply lift statements. The purpose of the document is to support your understanding of how to write a supporting statement, including the language to use and how to show your impact as a leader. It also shows how you can structure a supporting statement, using the headings provided in the person specification. I prefer this layout style myself and feel that it shows that you are organised, as well as, making the shortlisting process easier for governors/trustees.

A fun presentation on identification keys for the Science curriculum. The powerpoint runs through what an identifcation key is, examples of identification keys, how to structure an identification key, two fun activities (involving biscuits and Frozen characters) for pupils to have a go at, plus a homework task! This lesson was used with my Y5 class but can easily be adapted for 8-14 year olds. Used on display, children write captions about any topic. We linked it to Rights Respecting, took photos of children standing to the side and then the speech bubble coming from their mouths.

Presentation on the dodo bird, which I used with my class as writing stimulus. Pupils loved learning about the funny-looking bird and its interesting history. Powerpoint contains information on: history, extinction, fun facts and dodos in the media. There is also a word list included with ambitious vocabulary. Pupils are taken through a week-long journey, starting at bridging, developing bridging and then applying and problem solving. The activities are fun, visual and will support children's understanding. L.Os are: I can add by bridging. I can subtract by bridging. I can add and subtracts to find a pattern. I can work backwards to solve a number problem. I can prove or disprove a statement about addition and subtraction. This was made for Y2 but can easily be differentiated by changing numbers/statements. I have included the answers to the questions to make your life a little easier! I recently ran a very successful British Values Day. I began the day by inviting parents/carers/governors in and delivered the attached assembly presentation to them as well as to pupils. I then gave each class a value of their own (see guidance). Classes were able to be as creative as they liked but were asked to give me one outstanding piece of display work so I could create a British Values display at the entrance of the school (see photo of display). Pupils dressed-up in their cultural clothes or wore red/blue/white and all brought in a 'gold coin donation' to give to charity. The assembly goes through each of the British Values and their meanings. There is a song and video clip attached as well as a short quiz at the end. Promoting British Values is extremely important, Ofsted say: 'Pupils’ spiritual, moral, social and cultural development and, within this, the promotion of fundamental British values, are at the heart of the school’s work.' I have recently won a TES prize for the creative teaching of Shakespeare. Here's what TES said: 'Hannah embraced the challenge of bringing Hamlet, Shakespeare’s longest play, to life in her KS2 classroom by adopting an original, cross-curricular approach. Featuring learning opportunities in and outside of the classroom, learners were fully immersed into this epic tragedy in every subject area and demonstrated their understanding in a variety of ways. From video retellings and word count pie charts to song writing and unique artistic interpretations, her teaching is the perfect example of how Shakespeare can be made accessible to pupils of all ages.' In this activity pack, there are ideas for 16 lessons and learning journeys. Many subjects are featured, including: Science, Maths, English, D&T, Art and more. The pack is made-up of resources, photos of when I did these activities with my class and planning. One of the 16 above is a cross-curricular learning journey for D&T and took us three weeks to complete - the children loved it! There are 46 pages in total. This was used with a Y5 class but can easily be adapted to support pupils from Y3 - Y8. The progress that my class made throughout this project was phenomenal! A presentation for assembly or lesson on mindsets. The presentations helps primary-aged pupils to understand what a growth and a fixed mindset are and how they can work towards developing a growth mindset. The presentation also talks about comfort zones and Carol Dweck, who created the theory of mindsets. Having a growth mindset plays a vital part in being happy and successful, if you haven't already, I would suggest definitely developing a growth mindset programme for your school...this presentation is a great introduction to that! A great 13-slide presentation, which can be used for lessons or an assembly. I strongly believe that children should learn about politics from a young age, in an accessible and interesting way.
