French 20 questions games - Small group or whole class no prep activities

(1)
French 20 questions games - Small group or whole class no prep activities The game of 20 questions is a fun and effective way to practice forming French questions and in these 5 versions of the game, students will learn over 250 nouns that go beyond what they learn from a textbook chapter theme or every day classroom vocabulary. Included: 5 versions with vocabulary written in French and English 5 versions with vocabulary written in French only Have students work in small groups of 2-4 or project the version of the game that you want to use and do a whole class activity. Each version includes 52 words. Many of the words will be new to your students as this game is meant not only to practice forming questions, but also to build vocabulary. I like to allow my students to look at the game chart while they play until they’re somewhat familiar with the words. One student in the small group or class chooses a word on the chart. Other students ask up to 20 questions trying to guess the secret word. EST-CE QUE……. … tu es une personne? … tu es un animal? … tu es un minéral? … tu es un endroit? … tu es un aliment? … tu es une plante? … tu es un objet? The student who has chosen the secret word can answer using the following responses: OUI - NON - PARFOIS - RAREMENT - GÉNÉRALEMENT - PEUT-ÊTRE - CELA DÉPEND - PROBABLEMENT Alternative game play: To change up the game and to make it more challenging as well as practicing other skills, have the student who chooses the secret word describe it to others in the group. Instead of asking questions about the secret word, other students listen to the description and guess it.

Each dictation is a separate audio file. Answer key and translation provided for each dictation. Sample: TITRE : Un joli endroit TEXTE : Nous aimons notre quartier. On y trouve un parc, une boulangerie et une école maternelle. Les rues sont toutes nommées en l'honneur de personnes célèbres. La rue où nous habitons a été nommée en l'honneur d'un homme politique très connu. Mes parents, eux, habitent une rue qui porte le nom d'un chanteur qui est né dans notre ville. "Dictation is the transcription of spoken text: one person who is dictating speaks and another who is taking dictation writes down the words as they are spoken. Among speakers of several languages, dictation is used as a test of language skill, similar to spelling bees in the English-speaking world."

Advanced French conversation questions - La technologie

(2)
❖ La Technologie- Technology - Discussion ciblée - French themed conversation questions ❖ Part of our series of “discussions ciblées”. List of 35 vocabulary words related to the water’s edge Includes 20 discussion questions. The questions are suitable for upper level and AP French or for high school French immersion. This resource is especially useful for your chapter on technology. The questions are thorough and thought provoking. I like to print the list of words on one side of a page and the questions on the other side so that students can easily refer to the new vocabulary during their conversations. If you make a two sided copy everything will fit on one page. Also included is a set of speaking cards for students to use prior to using the discussion cards so that they can become familiar with the theme and many new words. The cards just need to be printed and cut out so that your students can use them in pairs or small groups. Each card says, “Décris le mot suivant en français et ton partenaire le devinera.” The vocabulary word is written both in French and English since many of the words will be new. This exposure to the vocabulary will make the discussion that follows flow easier. Students will still have easy access to the list of words on the other side of the photocopied questions. Don’t want to print? That’s ok! A PDF with just one card per page is included for easy projecting or for tablets. ❖ La Technologie- Technology - Discussion ciblée - French themed conversation questions ❖

French Airports and Vocabulary - A lesson on French culture

These printable handouts accompany a video about French airports and vocabulary on YouTube. The video is not my property and is not downloadable with this resource. You will need to watch it online. The video is about 8 minutes long, and this resource includes one page with 12 questions in English to share with your students for discussion about flying and airports prior to watching the video. The questions do not assume that everyone has had the experience of taking a plane. The second page includes 12 questions written in English to be answered while watching the video. There is a vocabulary list in French and English of all 28 French words introduced in the video. Finally, to wrap up the lesson there is a fun crossword puzzle to complete. The clues are given in English and the answers are in French. These resources make it easy to transform a short 6 minute video into a comprehensive cultural lesson that you’ll feel good about using with your students. The video is presented by Géraldine from Comme une Française. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4hEzbcrVRTU.
