2 KS3 History lessons centred on Indian Independence. This powerpoint is split into two sections. In the first, students will look at British colonial rule of India and how India, its people and resources, are used by the British. The second section looks at the quest for freedom within India, personified by the words and actions of Gandhi, as well as partition of India into India and Pakistan. There are two checkpoints for students to answer comprehension questions.

A KS3 History lesson centred on the creation of the NHS after the Second World War. Students will look at sources as to why people supported the idea of free healthcare as well as how the government was to fund such a revolutionary method of medical care. There are a number of checkpoints throughout the lesson where students’ understanding can be challenged.

A KS3 History lesson about the causes of the sinking of the Titanic. Students are given evidence about the Titanic and those involved in the maiden voyage and disaster. Students are then tasked with coming to their own conclusion on why the Titanic sank and who/what is to blame.

PSHE Lesson aimed at Year 9 students on the topic of consent. Students will be given both real life and fictional examples where consent has not been given and the consequences. Students will watch a number of videos on the topic of consent; links are in the slide notes. There is a range of questions throughout the presentation which will provide more than enough work for an hours session. There is also a group activity included which puts consent into practice.

KS3 History lesson which usually takes 2 hours to complete. Students are first introduced to Winston Churchill’s early life and political career during the First and Second World Wars. Students then go on to see Churchill’s impact post-war and the legacy that he left behind using source analysis to assist in this. Questions evaluating Churchill’s significance are present within the lesson.

2 KS3 History lessons that centres on the moon landings. Students will focus on source analysis in both lessons; firstly addressing sources that discredit the landings and claim they are a hoax. The second uses sources that aim to prove that the landings were real. A report type task is present at the end of the second lesson where students are asked to present a balanced response before a opinionated conclusion on what the student thinks is true and why.

A KS3 History lesson on Communism and Fascism; their origins, beliefs and application within two named case studies. Students will first investigate Communism and Soviet Russia before then going on to look at Fascist Italy. Questions are present throughout the lesson and there is a word match-up activity at the end of the lesson for students to complete as an exit ticket. This lesson is self-contained so can be set as online work for students.

A KS3 History lesson on the Empire Windrush. Students will look at the context for immigration from the West Indies to Britain and the treatment of the immigrants upon their arrival. There are a few first hand accounts of immigrants to analyse. Students will then answer comprehension questions at the end of the lesson.

A KS3 History lesson on evacuation during the Second World War. This lesson can be broken into two one-hour lessons. The first looks at the reasons for evacuation looking at first hand accounts of the process. The second looks at the experiences during evacuation, again looking at sources. Questions are asked throughout the lesson to check for understanding and develop source analysis.

A KS3 History lesson on the Dresden bombings; assessing if they were necessary or a potential war crime. This lesson will take two hours as students use information and sources to form a judgement to the issue above. There are some sensitive images so review before teaching.

A lengthy KS3 History lesson introducing the Second World War. This lesson is taught almost like a timeline from start to finish of the war. I teach this over 2-3 lessons to introduce the topic and then go into more detail with certain events in lessons after this. There are lots of discussion points and questions for students to answer.

A KS3 History lesson introducing the suffrage movement and women’s campaign for the vote. Students will look at sources which highlight the position of women within society and their actions as they try to force change. Questions and sources are present throughout the lesson to help challenge students.

KS3 History lesson introducing the concept of revolution. Students will be told about the most notable Revolutions (French, American, Industrial and Russian) A modern day example of Football is there to use but is optional as well as a starter task based around the ‘digital revolution’ of today. Students begin to understand how a collective change in thoughts and actions brings about a revolution. Powerpoint contains a few slides to begin with about standards as this lesson is used at the start of a new term before heading on to the French Revolution.
