Spanish A Level Paper 3 (speaking test) support booklet - UPDATED

(4)
A 37-page booklet to help prepare Spanish A Level students for Paper 3 (speaking test). The booklet covers the four themes and twelve sub-themes studied in the two-year course, as well as guidelines on how to approach the Individual research project. It also includes a student-friendly overview of the new specification, an explanation of the requirements of Paper 3, the assessment objectives and the mark scheme for both part one (discussion if a sub-theme) and part two (presentation and discussion of the individual research project) of the paper. Each sub-theme in part one is illustrated with one of the sample photo cards from AQA, followed by a list of 20 to 30 questions that the students could be expected to be able to answer when discussing the sub-theme. There are 285 questions altogether, providing the students with opportunities to study each sub-theme in quite a lot of detail (and the teachers with plenty of homework opportunities!) The booklet also explains what the individual research project consists of, what the teacher’s role is and suggested titles. Finally, the booklet also contain three pages of useful language for the test. UPDATE (13/06/19) - I have updated the booklet to get rid of the more “general” questions and focus it more on Spanish speaking countries.

New Spanish A Level: Paper 3 (speaking) cards (Themes 1, 2, 3, 4). Perfect for home learning.

(2)
This booklet contains 72 speaking cards based on Theme 1, Theme 2, Theme 3 and Theme 4 of the new Spanish A Level course (Aspects of Hispanic society, Artistic culture in the Hispanic world, Multiculturalism in the Hispanic World and Aspects of political life in the Hispanic world). The cards contain (quite a lot) of factual information about the theme (a lot more than the sample cards from AQA) and three questions, the first one always being “How do you react to the information on this card?” or similar). The aim of presenting the cards like this is to provide the students with a lot of ideas on what to say about the theme, as well as making them more aware that they always have to discuss the information printed on the card (AO2 and AO4). There are eighteen cards for each theme (six cards for each sub theme), and each section is followed by a minimum of 20 questions to encourage the students to explore and discuss the topic further. The booklet ends with a list of vocabulary useful for the speaking test, and it also includes an overview of the A Level course, of Paper 3 and of the assessment criteria. A free sample of this resource can be found on this link: /teaching-resource/new-spanish-a-level-discussion-cards-paper-3-speaking-11960474?theme=0 UPDATE (13/06/19) - The booklet has been adapted to replace some of the more general questions and with other questions focused on Spanish speaking countries.

KS3 - Spanish writing mats (cover work)

(1)
A set of 20 writing mats/templates covering a series of different topics in Spanish. The topics include leisure activities, the weather, festivals, films, basic personal information, holidays, school subjects, healthy diet and charity work. All mats are bilingual (all the content is in English as well as Spanish), and there is an emphasis on opinions and tenses. The mats are designed for KS3 students mainly, but they can also be used for a variety of revision or starter activities at KS4. These mats are perfect to set cover work (students can use them to write sentences and paragraphs on each topic, use them to produce posters and classroom displays, or to create revision mind maps). I have also used them in lessons. Some of the activities I have used these templates for include: dictation: read a text that uses the language in the mats and ask the students to write it down. dicta-translation: read a text based on the mat in Spanish and ask the students to write it down in English, or the other way round. paired dictation and translation: same as above but the students read to each other. “great minds think alike”: ask the students to write a number of sentences and then ask them to find out, by reading their sentences to each other, if someone else wrote the exact same sentences, thus proving that they are great minds. “stand up if”: ask the students to highlight sentences in the mats. Then read a text based on it and ask the students to stand up (and then immediately sit down) every time that you read a word or phrase that they’ve highlighted. speed reading: time the students while they read from the template, see how many sentences they can read out/who is the first to read a full text etc. And of course the students can use the writing mat to write their own texts. More mats will be added shortly on topics such as health, school and relationships.
