This lesson was designed for our KS3 studying ‘Frankenstein’ for their 19th Century text but could also work well for a G.C.S.E class as an end of topic enrichment lesson. Students are to watch a number of trailers/video extracts from film, theatre and ballet adaptations of ‘Frankenstein’ and then complete the grid. It’s a great way for students to reflect on the plot and compare adaptations. At the end of the lesson students are tasked to consider how they would stage a production of ‘Frankenstein’.

This lesson was created for a KS3 English-Drama class exploring ‘Frankenstein’ with the Phillip Pullman play adaptation. Students are invited to consider if Frankenstein’s creature is a monster or a victim through discussions, prompts and analysing production videos from the 2011 National Theatre production. In the lesson students also have a scaffolded writing task, ‘Frankenstein’s Rebuttal’ in the form of a monologue.

This lesson was designed for a KS3 class studying Philip Pullman’s play adaptation of ‘Frankenstein’. We also consider short extracts from the novel (quotes about Elizabeth). In this lesson students use hot seating to explore Elizabeth’s character in greater detail. There is a language analysis task and a drama activity with a scaffolded reflection for students to copy and complete.

As pairs, and later as a class, students are invited to explore Agathe and Felix’s decision to include or exclude Frankenstein. There are a number of writing prompts for students to reflect on the drama activities.
