Fact families - moving the position of the added number and the total to show in different ways and to show as subtraction is the inverse of this. This handout will help children to structure their non-chronological report writing. It contains skills for Upper Key Stage 2 (Year 5 and 6). It helps to identify the features of non-chronological report writing and structured writing skills. This help sheet is great for encouraging children to attempt skills they lack confidence to use or who lack ideas of what they could include.

Teach your pupils to use relative clauses (with pronouns) to meet the year 5 and 6 expected standards for writing in English. This resource is for teaching the skill practically and uses the book, The Escape Room by Christopher Edge as a basis for the sentences. You have a starting sentence and then the children cut the paper and insert their own relative clause where they think it should go. There are different versions to help with scaffolding the task for different ability children -with some sentences with the relative pronoun clause starters already inserted and example help sheets given too.

Designed for Upper KS2 children, this ordering and compare task involves children numbering the value of real football transfers. The numbers go from 60,000 to 222 million. This tests the children’s place value understanding and their ordering ability. Players range from Alan Shearer to modern players like Neymar. Additional challenges have been added so that children can show their understanding through bar models, whole part models and greater, less than symbols too. Answer sheets are included too.

This resource provides diary entry examples suitable for KS2. There are 6 texts and each one has a different topic, speaker and style of writing. The examples are written so they engage pupils with the topic while allowing them to explore the features, which you’d expect to find in a diary entry.

This is a great worksheet for those KS2 teachers looking to put children’s understanding of adding ‘-ed clauses’ into their writing. It is a great writing tool and one that children can struggle with ideas for in Upper Key Stage 2 so this scaffolds their knowledge to get progressively harder. The word bank at the bottom is useful for the lesson and as a future reminder the children can turn back to for models and ideas.
