This is an SEN year 7 lesson which can be edited to work for KS1/2, KS 3, or other SEN pupils. PPT that has a short speaking and listening activity about pets, input about the responsibility of pet owners, and a research task to find out how much items for owning different pets cost (BEFORE then the extra cost of having one). Pupils also have a reflection sheet to complete. Key words are supported with visual symbols.

This is a poem that I made up to support learning from the Texts That Teach KS 1/2 poem book, A First Book of the Sea. This poem follows the layout of On the Pier, and has different family members doing different activities while on a boat. Rhyming couplets with missing rhyming words, and a rhyming word bank to finish the sentences.

An SEN science lesson about how fossils are formed in sedimentary rocks, from the KS 2 National Curriculum. Opening activity are some questions about rocks to recap (with prompts), a quick speaking and listening task, some key learning, a BBC bitesize video, and a worksheet activity (fill in the blanks, experiment, story board for fossils being formed) Using bread, pupils can put a gummy on, add another slice, add a gummy, etc. When pupils press the bread down the way sediment would be compacted, and then lift off the bread, they will see the imprint of their gummy very clearly. This is how a fossil is made.

An SEN Year 7 science lesson from the KS National curriculum about the earth’s structure. Includes 4 recap questions about rocks, some key learning, a bbc bitesize video, and the investigation prompts. Two adapted worksheets with/without visual symbols are included. Using oreos and oat biscuits (for different rocks) crumbled and crushed into a plastic cup with vegetable oil (plant matter) gummy worms or bears (animal matter) and coco powder, pupils can make their own soil and then eat it if they wish.

A SEN Year 7 lesson matched to the National Curriculum, investigating how long it takes for white chocolate, milk chocolate, and dark chocolate to melt. Briefly looks at the science behind why one might melt quicker than the other. Worksheet has hypothesis, method, labelling a diagram, filling in a table, and a conclusion. PPT includes a speaking and listening warm up, 2 videos to go along with teaching input.

I’ve made a visual step by step instruction to help pupils understand telling the time past the hour, and 2 the hour, in 5 min intervals, as they find it quite tricky. Aimed at SEN year 7, suitable for any KS with pupils learning to tell the time.

This lesson is a life skills one aimed at Year 7 SEN pupils. It would also be suitable for KS 1/2. This lesson touches on why adults need to be prepared for the event of an emergency, how these things help until emergency services arrive, or how they can be used to stop other help from being needed. Pupils then have a research task, using ipads, to google basic first aid items (plasters, gauze, medical scissors, smoke alarms, torches, etc) to see how much these things cost in real life. There are questions to promote discussion as well.

This is a complete lesson aimed at answering the question: What was Mayan culture like? It was taught to a year 7 SEN group and follows the KS 1/2 National Curriculum. There are 5 quick recap questions to start (with visual prompts to scaffold learning) and then the lesson is based around the BBC Teach videos and using a sheet with visuals and sentence stems to gather information about what a day in the life of a Maya person would be like. The day in the life sheet is attached and all videos are linked in the ppt.

This is a lesson based on Brene Brown’s Video about Emapthy (Kid friendly) version. It is aimed at SEN year 7 pupils, so would be suitable for SEN or KS 1/2. It defines empathy, identifies the 4 steps in empathy, and presents social scenarios where empathy would need to be used, and offers scaffolds to support responses.

This is a complete lesson to go with the Texts that Teach book, Penguins. Included is a ppt with a speaking and listening warm up, a recap of past learning, differentiated learning for 3 levels, pupil activity sheets, and adult instructions for supported scaffolding / assessing learning. Essential Learning Question: Can I identify nouns / verbs / adjectives for my innovated research? Warm up: Can I make sentences that make sense? Can I identify features of sentences from my imitated text? This is a lesson that was taught for year 7 SEN, but is following the primary Texts that Teach sequence!
