This is an SEN year 7 lesson which can be edited to work for KS1/2, KS 3, or other SEN pupils. PPT that has a short speaking and listening activity about pets, input about the responsibility of pet owners, and a research task to find out how much items for owning different pets cost (BEFORE then the extra cost of having one). An SEN science lesson about how fossils are formed in sedimentary rocks, from the KS 2 National Curriculum. Opening activity are some questions about rocks to recap (with prompts), a quick speaking and listening task, some key learning, a BBC bitesize video, and a worksheet activity (fill in the blanks, experiment, story board for fossils being formed) Using bread, pupils can put a gummy on, add another slice, add a gummy, etc. When pupils press the bread down the way sediment would be compacted, and then lift off the bread, they will see the imprint of their gummy very clearly. This is how a fossil is made.

An SEN Year 7 science lesson from the KS National curriculum about the earth’s structure. Includes 4 recap questions about rocks, some key learning, a bbc bitesize video, and the investigation prompts. Two adapted worksheets with/without visual symbols are included. Using oreos and oat biscuits (for different rocks) crumbled and crushed into a plastic cup with vegetable oil (plant matter) gummy worms or bears (animal matter) and coco powder, pupils can make their own soil and then eat it if they wish.

This lesson is a life skills one aimed at Year 7 SEN pupils. It would also be suitable for KS 1/2. This lesson touches on why adults need to be prepared for the event of an emergency, how these things help until emergency services arrive, or how they can be used to stop other help from being needed. Pupils then have a research task, using ipads, to google basic first aid items (plasters, gauze, medical scissors, smoke alarms, torches, etc) to see how much these things cost in real life. There are questions to promote discussion as well.

This is a complete lesson aimed at answering the question: What was Mayan culture like? It was taught to a year 7 SEN group and follows the KS 1/2 National Curriculum. There are 5 quick recap questions to start (with visual prompts to scaffold learning) and then the lesson is based around the BBC Teach videos and using a sheet with visuals and sentence stems to gather information about what a day in the life of a Maya person would be like.
