This is a versatile, multi level speaking activity for Adult ESL students. It uses a fun speed dating style to get students talking to each about a variety of topics. It would work well as a getting to know you, back to school activity but will work equally well at any time you would like to student to focus on conversational fluency.

Four resources covering past tenses suitable for Pre Intermediate - Intermediate level Adult ESL Students.
They are print and go grammar lessons with content relevant to adult learners. There are no fancy fonts or childish pictures. The emphasis is on good solid content and interesting activities. They are integrated lessons with a mix of speaking, grammar and writing. The lessons begin with some structured grammatical activities which could be done orally first and then written. The second part of the lesson is more open – ended, allowing students to integrate what they’ve learned and begin speaking confidently.
Lesson 1 focuses on regular verbs with emphasis on:
pronunciation of ED ending with /d/, /t/ or /id/
spelling patterns
grammar focus on negative and question forms of past tenses
speaking activities to consolidate
The focus of lesson 2 is on
Irregular past tense verb forms
Negatives and questions in the past tense (which many students find challenging)
speaking and writing tasks to consolidate and extend learning
Lesson 3 Present Perfect includes:
a review of present perfect tense and
focuses on the differences between present perfect and past simple - something which intermediate students find challenging.
