Economies and Diseconomies of Scale - Case Study + Questions
This newly written case study, which is based around the fictional ‘Sam’s Sandwich Shop’, comes in a student-friendly manner to ensure that learners can access content. Whilst GCSE students will gain understanding of the different types of economies and diseconomies of scale, A-level students will appreciate the nuances within the text which prompt further discussion. This resource exposes students to all types of economies of scale whilst also recognising the diseconomies of scale that can exist when firms expand. The factors which determine whether a business experiences economies or diseconomies are also discussed.
As a successful and experienced teacher of A-level and GCSE Business Studies I have found this type of resource hugely beneficial when getting students to understand new theory. Applying learning to a case study written specifically for the purpose helps students to contexualise learning which leads to greater knowledge retention and understanding. 3x follow-up questions help students to further consolidate learning. This approach has boosted exam performance and significantly increased grades.
