A Ks3 version of the GCSE resource available elsewhere. This has been simplified The objectives link to the 9-1 GCSE Levels but stop at Level 6. Therefore it can be used comfortably with Year 8 and 9 groups. A standalone lesson but other subsequent lessons look at the structure in more detail and Hurricane Katrina as a case study. Covers the cause of tropical storms and how they are distributed across the globe. Emphasis is on explanation and sequencing.

A fully resourced lesson that covers the cause, effects and responses to a specific UK extreme weather hazard. The Somerset Levels makes a great example due to the prolonged nature of the event and multiple contributing factors. The emphasis is on getting students to engage with the activities and demonstrate understanding. A Knowledge Organiser is included, along with video links meaning no other resources are needed. Students can produce an icon based A4 summary or a as an A4 table - both of these are digital and therefore can be completed remotely. Updated February 2025 video links including the 50 minute documentary on the floods have been checked and are working fine. You will need access to Youtube to play them.

Also included are worksheets that cover the 3 cell model formation and how high and low pressure is linked to climate at the equator, the deserts and the UK. Key concepts covered are: the 3 cell model, air pressure, surface winds, convection and the Coriolis effect. This work was covered over two 60 minute lessons.
