Year 3 / 4 Adjectives activity - ‘Why are you all staring at me?’ Based on Chapter 2 of ‘The Angel of Nitshill Road’ by Anne Fine. Plus an adjectives wordsearch for fun!

The main comprehension is A4 sized and contains 19 questions, giving a total of 25 marks (could be turned into a percentage score!), plus a dictionary challenge. The comprehension could be used as an independent task for Y5/6 children or to use in a guided reading session. The second comprehension task is shorter, containing 10 questions to answer, for a total of 16 marks, plus a reading challenge based on a paragraph from chapter one. Could also be used as an independent activity or as part of a group reading. it is half A4 sized, so I have put two comprehensions on one A4 worksheet.

Two different Comprehension worksheets suitable for Year 5/6 1 - Ten questions on chapter one plus a vocabulary challenge. Can be stuck in pupils’ books for independent work. Two sets of questions per A4 sheet. 2 - 14 questions and a dictionary challenge on an A4 sheet.

Pupils answer a range of comprehension questions on an A4 landscape worksheet, with 20 marks possible. There is also a reading challenge based on favourite phrases from chapter one, which could be used to stimulate further work or displayed on the Working Wall. Pupils can do this activity independently and will require the book or copies of chapter one.

Pupils have to read a paragraph from chapter one and change the verb tense from present to past tense. The challenge is to carry on the story using past tense. Class discussion on the effect of changing the tense is recommended before attempting the activity!

This is a homework task for primary aged pupils who are learning about schools of the past. The task is to interview an older person and find out about their childhood and schooldays - to compare them with modern schools and children nowadays. Pupils could interview a grandparent, parent or other relative, or even a good family friend – the older, the better! Pupils are given a few questions to start the interview - then it is up to them to think of their own.

A4 worksheet with 2 actiivities. Firstly, pupils have to complete the missing letters of 10 named gases. Secondly, pupils research into 2 gases and write notes on their properties. Could be used as research homework.

This is an A4 cloze procedure activity based on the story of Little Red Riding Hood. All the missing spaces must be filled with adjectives of the pupil’s choice. It could be used with Year 3 or 4. It could be a homework task to reinforce the use of good adjectives in writing or as a reading / word level task in class. The extension task asks the pupils to carry on the story using their own amazing adjectives!

A resource to support a lesson on persuasive writing techniques. Pupils are asked to write a persuasive argument which either supports zoos or is against zoos. This resource consists of : 1 - an original acrostic poem which could be used as a stand alone example of this form of poetry, to be read aloud or used in guided reading. 2 - an A4 sheet with 10 questions which concentrate on the figurative language used in the poem. A comprehension activity based on the story of Jonah and the Whale. There are 12 questions and the activity is copied so two pupil sheets fit on one A4 sheet, needing to be trimmed in half. It could be used simply as an aid to discussion or as an independent activity. There is a challenge activity where pupils are asked to draw a scene from the story.

The worksheet asks pupils to listen and appraise different genres of music, writing their thoughts using a table provided. The teacher would need to prepare a range of short and varied pieces of music, according to their curriculum requirements.
