This resource uses the six Active Literacy strategies to enable students to fully understand poem ‘The Magic Box’ by Kit Wright. Pupils will also have the opportunity to write their own Magic Box poem- ideal for use at National Poetry Day- particularly for pupils who struggle to write poetry. For use with- Year 5-8 Primary 6/7 S1 & S2

This is a Halloween comprehension passage. It is in line with the SQA National 5 Reading for Understanding, Analysis and Evaluating paper. This resource comes with passage, a variety of questions (in your own words, summarise, language, link) and a marking scheme. It is targeted at S4 or Y10 pupils but could also be used by a decent S3 or Y9 class. The passage is adapted from a Guardian article on Halloween traditions being adopted in Australia. This could be used in clas or set as a homework assignment.

This activity includes model paragraphs/ stimulus for writing a scary Halloween story. I used this with my class after spending time learning about developing setting, character and plot. Pupils were given a stimulus picture and asked to write a descriptive story in 45 minutes in order to give a snapshot of their ability/ learning.
