Main Approach: Teacher read-aloud, guided discussion, short formative tasks, chapter-based homework. The overarching aim of this scheme of work is to guide learners through an engaging, reflective reading of Tim Bowler’s ‘River Boy’, developing both their enjoyment of literature and their analytical skills by exploring how themes, symbolism, and character experiences connect to universal ideas such as change, loss, and resilience. Specifically, the scheme aims to: • Foster a love of reading through shared experiences, creative responses, and thoughtful discussion. • Build literary analysis skills with a focus on themes, symbolism, character, and mood. • Develop Cambridge-aligned skills in comprehension, inference, structured writing, and critical thinking. • Encourage emotional intelligence by linking the novel’s themes to students’ own experiences. • Support both collaborative and independent learning through trackers, short tasks, and reflection activities. A ‘Mad Minute’ style resource in which students compete against themselves to improve automaticity in basic number facts (bonds of 100 and multiplication tables up to 12). It is not about rushing children to build speed before they are ready, it’s about building quick recall of facts for those who already understand multiplication, and building each child’s own personal growth and accuracy. This resource contains a printable student document comprising 12 weeks-worth of daily maths fact strips (12 sheets with 5 strips per sheet) OR 10 weeks-worth of daily maths fact strips and 2 assessments, along with a separate answer key document. The sheets are made up as follows: Sheets 1-3, addition and subtraction (bonds of 100) Sheets 4-9, multiplication and division (up to 12 times-table) Sheets 10-12, mixed operations.
